5. Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully unpack the UPS and inspect it for any shipping damage. Keep the packaging materials for future transport or storage.
  2. Placement: Place the UPS in a clean, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive moisture. Ensure adequate space around the unit for proper airflow. The unit is designed for tower form factor and can be wall-mounted.
  3. Initial Charging: Before initial use, connect the UPS to a standard wall outlet and allow it to charge for at least 8 hours. This ensures the battery is fully charged and ready to provide optimal backup time.
  4. Connecting Equipment:
    • Plug your critical electronic devices (e.g., computer, monitor, modem, router, small home office equipment) into the six NEMA 5-15R outlets on the rear panel. These outlets provide battery backup, surge protection, and voltage regulation.
    • For telephone/network line protection, connect your incoming line to the "IN" RJ45 port and your device (e.g., modem) to the "OUT" RJ45 port.
  5. USB Connection (Optional): Connect the supplied USB cable from the UPS's USB port to an available USB port on your computer. Install the monitoring software from the included CD to enable advanced power management features and status monitoring.

6. Operating Instructions

  1. Turning On the UPS: After initial charging, press and hold the power button on the front panel for approximately 2 seconds until you hear a beep and the LCD display illuminates.
  2. Turning Off the UPS: To turn off the UPS, press and hold the power button for approximately 2 seconds until you hear a beep and the LCD display turns off. Ensure all connected devices are properly shut down before turning off the UPS.

  4. Battery Backup Operation: In the event of a power outage or significant voltage fluctuation, the UPS will automatically switch to battery power. An audible alarm will sound, and the LCD will indicate "Batt. Mode". This provides up to 40 minutes of backup power, depending on the connected load, allowing you to save work and safely shut down equipment.
  5. Overload Protection: If the connected load exceeds the UPS's capacity (450W), an overload alarm will sound, and the UPS may shut down. Disconnect non-essential equipment and press the circuit breaker reset button on the rear panel if it has tripped.

7. Maintenance

  • Battery Care: The internal battery has a typical lifespan of 3-5 years. To maximize battery life, ensure the UPS is kept in a cool, dry environment and fully charged. Avoid frequent deep discharges.
  • Battery Replacement: Battery replacement should only be performed by qualified service personnel. Contact Smartbitt support for assistance.
  • Cleaning: Disconnect the UPS from the power source before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
