3. Setup

Follow these steps to connect your Tendak S-Video+RCA to HDMI Converter:

  1. Connect Input Source: Connect your source device (e.g., VCR, DVD player, gaming console) to the converter's input ports. Use either the S-Video port for S-Video signals or the yellow (CVBS), white (L Audio), and red (R Audio) RCA ports for composite signals.
  2. Connect Output Display: Connect an HDMI cable from the converter's HDMI output port to an HDMI input port on your television, monitor, or projector.
  3. Connect Power: Plug the provided 5V AC power adapter into the converter's DC5V port and then into a standard electrical outlet. The power LED on the converter will illuminate.
  4. Select Input Type: Use the 'CVBS/S-VIDEO' switch on the converter to select the correct input type corresponding to your source device.
  5. Select Output Resolution: Use the '720/1080P' switch to select your desired HDMI output resolution (720p or 1080p).
  6. Select Display Input: Turn on your display device and select the corresponding HDMI input channel.

4. Operating Instructions

Once the converter is set up, operating it is straightforward:

  1. Power On: Ensure all connected devices (source, converter, display) are powered on.
  2. Select Input: Use the 'CVBS/S-VIDEO' switch on the converter to match the type of cable connected from your source device. For example, if using the yellow RCA cable, select CVBS. If using the S-Video cable, select S-VIDEO.
  3. Adjust Resolution: Use the '720/1080P' switch to toggle between 720p and 1080p HDMI output resolutions. Note that this converter does not upscale the original video quality. If your input signal is 480i, the output will remain 480i, even if 720p or 1080p is selected, as it cannot create higher resolution data.
  4. Audio Output: The audio signal is embedded in the HDMI output. If you require separate audio, connect a 3.5mm audio cable from the converter's 'AUDIO' jack to your external audio system.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Tendak S-Video+RCA to HDMI Converter, please observe the following maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the device. Avoid using liquid cleaners or aerosols, which may damage the unit.
  • Environment: Keep the converter in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
  • Handling: Handle the device with care. Avoid dropping it or subjecting it to strong impacts.
  • Disassembly: Do not attempt to open or repair the converter yourself. This may void the warranty and could lead to electric shock or damage.
  • Power Disconnection: Disconnect the power adapter from the wall outlet and the converter if the device will not be used for an extended period.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your converter, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:

6.1. No Picture or Signal

  • Check Connections: Ensure all S-Video, RCA, HDMI, and power cables are securely connected to both the converter and your devices.
  • Verify Power: Confirm that the power adapter is plugged in and the converter's power indicator light is on.
  • Input Selection: Make sure the 'CVBS/S-VIDEO' switch on the converter is set to the correct input type (CVBS for RCA, S-VIDEO for S-Video).
  • Display Input: Ensure your television or monitor is set to the correct HDMI input channel.
  • Resolution Setting: Try toggling the '720/1080P' switch to see if a different resolution resolves the issue. Some displays may be more compatible with one setting over the other.

6.2. Poor Picture Quality

  • Cable Quality: Ensure you are using high-quality S-Video, RCA, and HDMI cables. Damaged or low-quality cables can degrade signal.
  • Source Quality: The converter processes the input signal without enhancing its original resolution. If the source signal is low resolution (e.g., 480i from a VHS player), the HDMI output will reflect that original quality.
  • S-Video vs. RCA: S-Video generally provides better picture quality than composite RCA. If your source device supports S-Video, use that connection.
  • Resolution Setting: Experiment with the '720/1080P' switch. Sometimes, a lower output resolution might appear clearer if the source is very low resolution.

6.3. No Audio

  • HDMI Audio: Verify the HDMI cable is properly connected. Audio is embedded in the HDMI signal.
  • Separate Audio: If using the 3.5mm audio output, ensure the cable is connected to an external audio system and that the system is powered on and set to the correct input.
  • Source Audio: Check if the source device is outputting audio correctly.
