The HI-TECH Industries VP&C DYE (Vinyl, Plastic & Carpet Dye) is an aerosol-based dye designed for professional and DIY use. It provides a durable, permanent finish that will not crack, split, peel, or rub off once properly applied and cured. It is suitable for use on a variety of interior surfaces in vehicles, homes, and other applications.

Key Features:

  • Permanent color restoration or change.
  • Flexible finish that resists cracking and peeling.
  • Suitable for vinyl, plastic, and carpet.
  • Easy-to-use aerosol application.

Setup and Preparation

Proper preparation is crucial for a successful and long-lasting application.

  1. Clean the Surface: Thoroughly clean the vinyl, plastic, or carpet surface to be dyed. Remove all dirt, grease, oil, silicone, and any other contaminants. Use a suitable cleaner designed for the specific material. For carpet, vacuum thoroughly and consider a carpet cleaner. For vinyl and plastic, a degreaser or all-purpose cleaner is recommended. Allow the surface to dry completely.
  2. Masking: Mask off any areas not intended for dyeing using painter's tape and plastic sheeting or newspaper. This includes surrounding trim, glass, fabric, or painted surfaces.
  3. Ventilation: Ensure the work area is well-ventilated. Open windows and doors, or use fans to circulate air.
  4. Shake Can: Shake the aerosol can vigorously for at least one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Continue shaking periodically during application.
  5. Test Area: Always test the dye on an inconspicuous area first to ensure color match and compatibility with the material.

Operating Instructions (Application)

Follow these steps for optimal application of the VP&C DYE:

  1. Hold Can: Hold the can upright approximately 8-10 inches (20-25 cm) from the surface.
  2. Apply Light Coats: Apply the dye in light, even coats. Do not attempt to cover the surface in one heavy coat, as this can lead to runs, uneven coverage, and poor adhesion.
  3. Overlap Passes: Use smooth, sweeping motions, overlapping each pass slightly to ensure uniform coverage.
  4. Drying Time Between Coats: Allow 5-10 minutes of flash-off time between coats. The surface should be tacky but not wet before applying the next coat.
  5. Build Color Gradually: Apply multiple thin coats until the desired color depth and coverage are achieved. Typically, 2-3 coats are sufficient for restoration, while more coats may be needed for significant color changes.
  6. Final Cure: Allow the dyed surface to dry completely for at least 24 hours before handling or exposing to moisture. Full cure may take up to 72 hours, depending on humidity and temperature.
  7. Clean Nozzle: After each use, invert the can and spray for a few seconds until only clear propellant comes out. This prevents the nozzle from clogging.

Maintenance

Once cured, the dyed surface requires minimal maintenance. Clean the surface with mild, pH-neutral cleaners. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or stiff brushes, as these can damage the finish over time. For carpet, regular vacuuming is recommended.
