1. Introduction and Overview
Amprobe products range from an extensive line of clamp meters and digital multimeters to industry-specific tools for residential/commercial electricians, HVAC/R technicians, utilities and industrial maintenance professionals. All Amprobe tools undergo rigorous testing to ensure full compliance with the latest IEC and CE safety regulations in Fluke Safety labs for quality and safety you can trust. The AM-560 is an advanced HVAC Digital Multimeter designed for precise measurements in various electrical and HVAC applications.

2. Key Features
- AC/DC Voltage up to 1000V, AC/DC current, resistance, frequency, capacitance, temperature, duty cycle.
- Dual thermocouple to take simultaneous temperature readings on low/high side of HVAC systems.
- Low pass filter for variable frequency drives.
- Non-contact voltage detection.
- Audible continuity.
3. What's in the Box
The Amprobe AM-560 package typically includes the following components:
- Amprobe AM-560 Digital Multimeter
- Test Leads (Probe, Hook Clip, Ground Lead, Ground Spring, Insulation Sleeve)
- Dual Thermocouple Probes (for temperature measurements)
- Carrying Case
- User Manual (this document)

4. Setup
- Battery Installation: Open the battery compartment on the rear of the multimeter. Insert the required batteries (typically 9V, refer to the battery compartment label for exact type and polarity). Securely close the compartment.
- Connecting Test Leads:
- For most voltage, resistance, and continuity measurements, insert the black test lead into the "COM" (common) jack and the red test lead into the "VΩHz" jack.
- For current measurements (mA/µA), insert the red test lead into the "mAµA" jack. For higher current measurements (A), insert the red test lead into the "10A" jack. Always ensure correct lead placement to prevent damage to the meter or circuit.
- Connecting Thermocouple Probes: For temperature measurements, connect the thermocouple probes to the dedicated temperature input jacks, ensuring correct polarity.

5. Operating Instructions
The AM-560 features a rotary dial for selecting measurement functions and buttons for additional settings. Always ensure the correct function is selected before making a measurement.
5.1. Basic Measurements
- Voltage (AC/DC): Turn the rotary dial to the 'V~' (AC Voltage) or 'V=' (DC Voltage) position. Connect the test leads in parallel to the circuit or component to be measured.
- Resistance (Ω): Turn the rotary dial to the 'Ω' position. Ensure the circuit is de-energized before connecting the test leads across the component.
- Continuity: Turn the rotary dial to the 'Ω' position and press the 'SELECT' button until the continuity symbol (speaker icon) is displayed. Touch the test leads to the points to be checked; an audible beep indicates continuity.
- Temperature (°C/°F): Turn the rotary dial to the 'TEMP' position. Connect the thermocouple probe(s) to the appropriate jacks. The display will show the temperature reading.
5.2. Advanced Functions
- Non-Contact Voltage (NCV): Turn the dial to the 'NCV' position. Hold the top of the meter near a live AC voltage source. The NCV indicator will illuminate and an audible tone will sound.
- Backlight: Press the 'HOLD' button for more than 2 seconds to activate the display backlight for improved visibility in low-light conditions.
- Data Hold: Press the 'HOLD' button briefly to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
- MAX/MIN: Press the 'MAX/MIN' button to record the maximum and minimum readings over a period.

6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the meter with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents.
- Battery Replacement: When the battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries immediately to ensure accurate readings. Refer to the "Setup" section for battery installation instructions.
- Fuse Replacement: If the meter fails to measure current, the fuse may need replacement. Refer to the full product manual for detailed instructions on accessing and replacing fuses. Always use fuses of the specified type and rating.
- Storage: Store the multimeter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No display or dim display | Low or dead batteries | Replace batteries. |
| Incorrect readings | Incorrect function selected, poor lead connection, damaged leads, or blown fuse (for current). | Verify function, check lead connections, inspect leads for damage, replace fuse if necessary. |
| No continuity beep | Circuit is open, or continuity function not selected. | Ensure circuit is closed, select continuity function. |
| NCV not detecting voltage | Voltage too low, or NCV sensor not positioned correctly. | Ensure voltage is within detectable range, reposition meter closer to the source. |
