Setup
Charging the Internal Battery
The NTG4+ features an internal rechargeable lithium battery that provides over 150 hours of continuous operation. To charge the microphone, connect the included MicroUSB cable to the USB port located at the base of the microphone and plug the other end into a compatible USB power source (e.g., computer, power adapter). A full charge typically takes less than two hours. The LED indicators on the microphone body will show charging status.

Connecting the Microphone
The NTG4+ connects via a standard XLR output. Connect an XLR cable (not included) from the microphone's XLR port to your audio recorder, camera, or mixer's XLR input. Ensure your device provides phantom power if you are not relying solely on the internal battery, although the internal battery makes it highly versatile for devices without phantom power.

Operation
Digital Switching Controls
The NTG4+ features three digital switches on its body for precise audio control. These switches allow you to activate various functions to optimize your sound capture. The settings are retained even when the microphone is switched off, thanks to persistent states.
- High-Pass Filter (HPF): Activates a 75Hz high-pass filter to reduce low-frequency rumble and noise (e.g., air conditioning, traffic).
- Pad (-10dB): Engages a -10dB pad to reduce the microphone's output level, useful when recording very loud sound sources to prevent clipping.
- High Frequency Boost: Applies a high-frequency boost to enhance clarity and detail in dialogue, especially useful when using a furry windshield or in acoustically dead environments.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the microphone body. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the microphone in its included padded zip pouch when not in use to protect it from dust and physical damage.
- Battery Care: For optimal battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. Charge the microphone regularly, especially if storing for extended periods.
- Environmental Conditions: Avoid exposing the microphone to extreme temperatures, high humidity, or direct sunlight.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No sound output | Microphone not powered on; Low battery; Incorrect cable connection; Input level too low on recording device. | Ensure microphone is powered on (LEDs illuminated). Charge the battery. Check XLR cable connection. Increase input gain on your recording device. |
| Distorted or clipped audio | Sound source too loud; Input gain too high on recording device. | Activate the -10dB pad on the microphone. Reduce input gain on your recording device. |
| Excessive low-frequency noise (rumble) | Environmental vibrations; Wind noise. | Activate the 75Hz high-pass filter. Use a shock mount. Use the included windshield or a furry wind cover for outdoor use. |
| Dull or muffled sound | Microphone too far from source; Windshield affecting high frequencies. | Move the microphone closer to the sound source. Activate the high-frequency boost. |
