Setup

Attaching the Lens to Your Camera

1. Ensure both the camera and the lens are powered off.
2. Remove the rear lens mount cap from the lens and the body cap from your camera.
3. Align the red mounting index on the lens with the corresponding index on the camera body.
4. Insert the lens into the camera mount and rotate it clockwise until it clicks into place.
5. Attach the lens hood by aligning its mark with the lens hood mark on the lens and twisting until it locks.

Using the Tripod Mount Bracket

The lens includes a detachable tripod mount bracket for stable shooting, especially given its size and weight. This bracket features an integrated lock mechanism to secure the lens.

To attach the lens to a tripod, secure the tripod mount bracket directly to your tripod's quick-release plate or head. Ensure the locking mechanism is engaged to prevent accidental detachment.

Operating the Lens

Focal Length and Zoom

This super-telephoto zoom lens covers a focal length range from 150mm to 450mm. Rotate the zoom ring to adjust the focal length. The lens is designed to be compact and light enough for handheld use during long-range shooting, but a tripod is recommended for optimal stability at longer focal lengths.

Focusing

The lens features an Auto Focus (AF) system driven by a built-in DC motor, providing smooth and quiet operation.

• Quick Shift Focus System: This system allows for instant switching from autofocus to manual focus. After the camera's AF system achieves focus, hold the shutter release button halfway down and turn the focus ring to fine-tune focus manually.
• AF Buttons: Four AF buttons are installed on the lens barrel, one at every 90 degrees. These buttons provide stable AF operation regardless of the camera's orientation, useful for both horizontal and vertical shooting.

In-Camera Shake Reduction (SR)

PENTAX digital SLR K series cameras are equipped with a built-in SR mechanism. This means that any lens compatible with K Series cameras, including this one, benefits from in-camera image stabilization, reducing blur caused by camera shake.
