Setup and First Use
1. Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect the cooker body, lid, gasket, and vent weight for any signs of damage. Ensure the gasket is properly seated in the lid groove.
2. Initial Cleaning
Before first use, wash the pressure cooker body, lid, and all accessories thoroughly with warm soapy water. Rinse well and dry completely. This removes any manufacturing residues.
3. Water Test (Recommended)
Perform a water test to familiarize yourself with the cooker's operation and ensure proper sealing. Fill the cooker with 2 cups of water. Place the gasket on the lid and fit the lid securely inside the cooker rim. Place the vent weight on the vent tube. Heat on medium-high until steam escapes steadily from the vent tube, then reduce heat and allow it to whistle for 5-10 minutes. Turn off heat and allow pressure to drop naturally before opening.
Operating Instructions
1. Preparing the Cooker
- Add food and liquid to the cooker. Do not fill more than two-thirds full for most foods, and no more than halfway for foods that expand (e.g., dals, rice, beans).
- Ensure the gasket is clean and properly seated in the lid.
- Place the lid onto the cooker body, ensuring it fits securely from the inside. The inner lid design requires the lid to be tilted and inserted into the pot, then straightened to align with the rim.
- Secure the lid by aligning the handles and pressing down firmly.
- Place the vent weight on the vent tube.
2. Cooking
- Place the cooker on a stovetop burner over high heat.
- Once steam begins to escape steadily from the vent tube, reduce the heat to medium-low.
- The pressure regulator will automatically maintain optimum pressure. Cooking time begins from this point.
- Refer to the included cookbook for specific cooking times for various foods.
3. Depressurizing
- After cooking, turn off the heat.
- Allow the pressure to drop naturally. Do not attempt to open the lid until the pressure has completely fallen. The inner lid design prevents opening under pressure.
- Alternatively, for faster depressurization, you may run cold water over the lid (avoiding the vent weight) or use the quick-release method if specified for your model (not typically recommended for inner lid models unless explicitly stated).
- Once pressure has dropped, remove the vent weight and then open the lid.
Care and Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wash the cooker and lid with warm soapy water after each use. The cooker is dishwasher safe. Ensure all food particles are removed from the vent tube and safety valve.
- Gasket: Regularly inspect the rubber gasket for cracks, hardening, or stickiness. Replace the gasket every 12-18 months, or sooner if signs of wear are visible, to ensure proper sealing and safety.
- Safety Valve: Check the safety valve periodically to ensure it is clear and not clogged.
- Storage: Store the cooker with the lid inverted or slightly ajar to allow air circulation and prevent odors.
