Bosch GLL 3-80 LR2 Laser Level Instruction Manual

Model: GLL 3-80 LR2

Product Overview

The Bosch GLL 3-80 is a three-plane 360-degree leveling and alignment laser designed for precise layout tasks. It projects one 360-degree horizontal plane and two 360-degree vertical planes, making it suitable for various leveling, alignment, and plumb applications. This kit includes the Bosch LR2 Line Laser Receiver, which extends the working range and improves visibility in bright conditions.

Key features include a Smart Pendulum System for self-leveling and out-of-level indication, a secure transport lock to protect the pendulum, and a Pulse Laser Receiver Mode for use with the LR2 receiver.

Safety Information

WARNING: Read and understand all instructions before operating this tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious personal injury.

  • This is a Class II laser product with a power output of ≤1mW.
  • Do not stare directly into the laser beam. Direct exposure to the laser beam can cause eye injury.
  • Do not intentionally direct the laser beam at others.
  • Do not use optical tools such as binoculars or telescopes to view the laser beam.
  • Keep the laser level out of reach of children.
  • Use only the accessories specified by the manufacturer.
  • Do not modify the laser device. Unauthorized modifications could result in hazardous radiation exposure.

Components Included

The Bosch GLL 3-80 LR2 kit typically includes the following components:

  • (1) Bosch GLL 3-80 Three-Line Laser
  • (1) Bosch LR2 Line Laser Receiver
  • (1) WM1 Positioning Device
  • (1) Hard Carrying Case
  • (4) AA Batteries (for GLL 3-80)

Setup

1. Battery Installation

The GLL 3-80 laser level requires 4 AA batteries. The LR2 receiver also requires batteries (typically 9V or AA, refer to LR2 specific manual for details if not provided here).

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the GLL 3-80 unit.
  2. Open the compartment cover.
  3. Insert 4 AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

2. Mounting the Device

The GLL 3-80 can be placed on a flat surface, mounted on a tripod (using the 1/4" or 5/8" thread), or attached to the WM1 Positioning Device.

  • On a Surface: Place the unit on a stable, level surface.
  • Tripod Mounting: Screw the laser level onto a compatible tripod. Ensure the tripod is stable.
  • WM1 Positioning Device: Attach the GLL 3-80 to the WM1 for versatile mounting options, including magnetic attachment to metal surfaces or clamping to various objects.

Operating Instructions

1. Powering On/Off

To power on the GLL 3-80, slide the power switch to the "On" position. To power off, slide the switch to the "Off" position. The secure transport lock engages automatically when switched off.

2. Self-Leveling Mode

When powered on, the GLL 3-80 will automatically enter self-leveling mode. The Smart Pendulum System will quickly level the unit. If the unit is outside its self-leveling range, the laser lines will blink rapidly, indicating an out-of-level condition. Adjust the unit's position until the lines become steady.

3. Selecting Laser Planes

The GLL 3-80 features buttons on the top panel to select which laser planes are projected:

  • One button for the horizontal 360-degree plane.
  • Another button for the two vertical 360-degree planes.
  • You can activate any combination of these planes simultaneously.

4. Manual Mode (Locking Lines)

To project lines at any angle (e.g., for stair railings or sloped surfaces), activate Manual Mode. This locks the pendulum, preventing self-leveling. Refer to the device's specific button for manual mode activation (often indicated by a padlock icon).

5. Using the LR2 Line Laser Receiver

For outdoor use or in bright indoor conditions where the laser lines are difficult to see, use the LR2 Line Laser Receiver. The GLL 3-80 has a Pulse Laser Receiver Mode that must be activated for the LR2 to detect the laser beam.

  1. Activate the Pulse Laser Receiver Mode on the GLL 3-80 (refer to the device's specific button, often indicated by a pulse icon).
  2. Power on the LR2 receiver.
  3. Move the LR2 receiver along the path of the laser beam. The receiver will provide visual and/or audible indications when it detects the laser line, allowing for precise alignment over longer distances (up to 265 feet).

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Keep the laser level and receiver clean. Wipe off any dirt or dust with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh cleaning agents or solvents.
  • Lens Care: Ensure the laser exit apertures are clean and free of obstructions. Use a soft, lint-free cloth for cleaning the lenses.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the GLL 3-80 and LR2 in their hard carrying case in a dry, dust-free environment. Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
  • Calibration: While the unit is factory-calibrated, extreme temperature changes or impacts may affect accuracy. If you suspect calibration issues, contact Bosch service for professional calibration.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Laser lines are blinking rapidly.Unit is out of self-leveling range.Place the unit on a more level surface or adjust its position until the lines become steady.
Laser lines are dim or not visible.Low battery power; Bright ambient light; Laser exit apertures are dirty.Replace batteries; Use the LR2 receiver in Pulse Laser Receiver Mode; Clean the laser exit apertures.
LR2 receiver not detecting laser.Pulse Laser Receiver Mode not activated on GLL 3-80; LR2 batteries low; LR2 not aligned with beam.Activate Pulse Laser Receiver Mode on GLL 3-80; Replace LR2 batteries; Ensure LR2 is in the path of the laser beam.
Laser lines are not straight or level.Unit is in Manual Mode; Unit has been dropped or impacted.Ensure Manual Mode is deactivated for self-leveling; If accuracy issues persist after impact, contact Bosch service for calibration.
