Getting Started: Setup
Battery Installation
The BACtrack Trace requires two AAA batteries for operation. To install or replace batteries:
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
- Slide the cover off.
- Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Replace the battery compartment cover, sliding it until it clicks into place.
Attaching a Mouthpiece
For hygienic and accurate testing, always use a clean mouthpiece. To attach a mouthpiece:
- Select one of the provided reusable mouthpieces.
- Firmly insert the mouthpiece into the circular opening on the side of the breathalyzer until it is securely in place.
Operating Your BACtrack Trace
Performing a Test
Follow these steps to perform an accurate BAC test:
- Important: Wait at least 15-20 minutes after eating, drinking, or smoking before taking a test. Failure to do so can lead to inaccurate results and potentially damage the sensor.
- Press the power button (G) to turn on the device. The device will display a countdown as it warms up (typically 10-20 seconds).
- Once the countdown reaches zero and the display indicates "BLOW", take a deep breath.
- Blow steadily and continuously into the mouthpiece for approximately 5 seconds until the device beeps and clicks, indicating a sufficient breath sample has been collected.
- Your BAC result will be displayed on the LCD screen within seconds.

Accessing Previous Results (Memory Function)
The BACtrack Trace stores your last 10 BAC readings for easy review:
- With the device powered on, press the 'M' (Memory) button.
- Each press of the 'M' button will cycle through your previous test results, starting from the most recent.

Recalibration

If you encounter issues with your BACtrack Trace, consider the following:
- Device Not Powering On: Check that the AAA batteries are correctly inserted and are not depleted. Replace with fresh batteries if necessary.
- Inaccurate Readings or "FLO" Error: Ensure you have waited the recommended 15-20 minutes after consuming food, beverages, or smoking. Blow steadily and continuously for the full 5 seconds as instructed. An insufficient breath sample can cause errors.
- Device Not Responding: Try removing and reinserting the batteries to perform a soft reset.
