2.2 Physical Installation

  1. Choose a Location: Select a suitable location, typically an electrical or data wall box, that provides optimal Wi-Fi coverage and access to network cabling.
  2. Mount the AP: Use the provided mounting bracket and screws to securely attach the AP-103H to the wall box.
  3. Connect Network Cables:
    • Connect the uplink Ethernet cable (from your network switch, preferably PoE-enabled) to the 10/100/1000BASE-T uplink port (labeled 'E0' or 'PoE IN').
    • If using wired client devices, connect them to the secure downlink switch ports.
    • The passive pass-through RJ-45 port can be used for connecting a phone or other device that requires a direct cable connection.
  4. Apply Power: If using PoE, the device will power on automatically once the uplink cable is connected to a PoE-enabled port. If not using PoE, connect an optional 12-volt DC power supply (not included) to the DC power jack.

2.3 Initial Configuration (Controller Required)

The AP-103H requires an Aruba Controller for operation. Once powered on and connected to the network, the AP will attempt to discover and connect to a configured Aruba Controller. Refer to your Aruba Controller documentation for details on AP provisioning and configuration.

3. Operating the AP-103H

Once successfully connected to an Aruba Controller and provisioned, the AP-103H will begin broadcasting Wi-Fi networks (SSIDs) as configured on the controller. Client devices can then connect to these networks.

3.1 Wireless Connectivity

  • Dual-Band Support: The AP operates on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, allowing for flexible client connections and optimized performance.
  • Client Association: Up to 32 client devices can be associated per radio, providing ample capacity for typical deployments.
  • Multiple SSIDs: The controller allows for the configuration of up to eight BSSIDs (SSIDs) per radio, enabling segmentation of wireless traffic for different user groups or purposes.

3.2 Wired Connectivity

The integrated Ethernet ports provide wired network access:

  • Uplink Port (E0): Connects the AP to your main network infrastructure. This port supports 10/100/1000BASE-T speeds.
  • Downlink Ports: Provide secure wired access for devices such as computers, IP phones, or printers.
  • Pass-Through Port: A passive RJ-45 port for direct cable pass-through, often used for connecting a phone line.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your AP-103H.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the AP with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols. Ensure ventilation slots are free from dust and debris.
  • Firmware Updates: Firmware updates are managed via the Aruba Controller. Consult your controller's documentation for information on checking for and applying firmware updates to your access points. Keeping firmware up-to-date is crucial for security and performance.
  • Environmental Conditions: Ensure the AP operates within its specified temperature and humidity ranges to prevent damage.

5. Troubleshooting

This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with your AP-103H.

5.1 Power and Connectivity Issues

  • AP not powering on:
    • Verify the Ethernet cable is securely connected to the uplink port and the PoE source.
    • Ensure the PoE switch port is enabled and providing power.
    • If using a DC power adapter, ensure it is correctly connected and the power outlet is functional.
  • AP not connecting to controller:
    • Check network connectivity between the AP and the controller.
    • Ensure the controller is operational and configured to discover new APs.
    • Verify no firewall rules are blocking communication between the AP and the controller.

5.2 Wireless Performance Issues

  • Slow Wi-Fi speeds:
    • Check for wireless interference from other devices (e.g., microwaves, cordless phones).
    • Ensure the AP is placed in an optimal location, free from obstructions.
    • Verify client devices are using 802.11n or higher standards.
    • Check the channel utilization and adjust channels on the controller if necessary.
  • Intermittent disconnections:
    • Ensure the AP has a stable power supply.
    • Check for network cable integrity.
    • Review controller logs for any error messages related to the AP.
