Figure 1: Faria Model 19150 Depth Finder. This image displays the Faria Model 19150 Depth Finder. It features a circular gauge with a silver bezel, a central LCD screen, and control buttons for 'ON/OFF MODE' and up/down arrows. Alongside the gauge is a black, transom-mount transducer, which is responsible for sending and receiving sonar signals.

2. Safety Information

Always observe the following safety precautions:

  • Ensure all electrical connections are secure and properly insulated to prevent short circuits.
  • Do not attempt to open or repair the unit yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
  • Keep the unit and its components away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
  • Always disconnect power before performing any maintenance or installation procedures.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all items are present in your package:

  • Faria Model 19150 Depth Finder Gauge
  • Transom-Mount Transducer with Cable
  • Mounting Hardware Kit
  • Instruction Manual (this document)

4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Gauge Installation

  1. Select a suitable location on your dashboard or panel for the gauge. Ensure it is easily visible and accessible.
  2. Cut a mounting hole of the appropriate diameter (refer to the specifications section for exact dimensions).
  3. Insert the gauge into the mounting hole and secure it using the provided mounting bracket and hardware.

4.2 Transducer Installation

The Faria Model 19150 includes a transom-mount transducer.

  1. Choose a location on the transom of your vessel that is free from turbulence and obstructions. The transducer should be mounted so its face is slightly below the hull bottom.
  2. Drill pilot holes as per the transducer mounting template (if provided) and secure the transducer bracket to the transom using the supplied screws.
  3. Attach the transducer to the bracket and adjust its angle to be parallel with the waterline.
  4. Route the transducer cable away from sources of electrical interference and secure it along the hull to the gauge location.

4.3 Wiring Instructions

The unit is battery powered. Connect the wiring as follows:

  • Red Wire: Connect to a switched 12V DC positive power source.
  • Black Wire: Connect to a reliable ground (negative) source.
  • Blue Wire (if present): Connect to a 12V DC positive source for backlight illumination (typically connected to navigation light circuit).
  • Transducer Cable: Plug the transducer cable into the corresponding port on the back of the depth finder gauge.

Ensure all connections are tight and protected from moisture.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On/Off

Press and hold the ON / OFF MODE button for approximately 3 seconds to power the unit on or off. The LCD screen will illuminate upon activation.

5.2 Basic Display and Depth Reading

Once powered on, the LCD will display the current depth in feet. The maximum measuring depth is 199 feet. Readings may vary based on water conditions and vessel speed.

5.3 Adjusting Settings

The gauge features up (▲) and down (▼) arrow buttons, along with the ON / OFF MODE button, to navigate and adjust settings. Specific functions for these buttons may include:

  • Mode Button (short press): Cycles through different display modes or settings options (e.g., shallow water alarm, deep water alarm, keel offset).
  • Up/Down Arrows: Adjusts values within a selected setting (e.g., setting alarm depths, adjusting keel offset).

Refer to the on-screen prompts for specific menu navigation.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Unit

Wipe the gauge and screen with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the display or finish.

6.2 Transducer Care

Periodically inspect the transducer for marine growth or damage. Clean the transducer face with a soft brush and mild soap to ensure optimal performance. Avoid scratching the transducer surface.

6.3 Battery Considerations

While the unit is powered by your vessel's 12V battery, ensure your battery system is well-maintained to provide consistent power to the depth finder.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No Power / Unit Does Not Turn OnNo power to the unit; Blown fuse; Loose wiring connection.Check power supply and fuse; Verify all wiring connections are secure.
Inaccurate or Erratic Depth ReadingsAir bubbles under transducer; Transducer dirty or damaged; Electrical interference.Check transducer mounting and clean its face; Ensure no air bubbles are present; Check for sources of electrical noise.
No Depth Reading (dashes on display)Transducer not connected; Transducer out of water; Water too shallow/deep for detection.Verify transducer connection; Ensure transducer is submerged; Operate within specified depth range (0-199 ft).
