Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your HENDI Whitford Xylan Grill Pan, model 629802. Please read these instructions carefully before first use and retain them for future reference.
Safety Instructions
- Heat Safety: The pan and its handle can become very hot during use. Always use oven mitts or heat-resistant gloves when handling the pan.
- Hob Compatibility: This grill pan is suitable for all types of cookers except induction hobs. Ensure your hob type is compatible before use.
- Oven Use: The pan is oven safe up to 250°C. Do not exceed this temperature.
- Non-Stick Coating: Avoid using metal utensils on the non-stick surface to prevent scratches. Use wooden, silicone, or plastic utensils.
- Empty Pan Heating: Do not heat an empty pan for extended periods, as this can damage the non-stick coating and warp the pan.
- Children: Keep the pan out of reach of children, especially when hot.

Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove all packaging materials and labels from the grill pan.
- Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the pan thoroughly with warm soapy water and a soft sponge. Rinse well and dry completely.
- Conditioning (Optional but Recommended): Lightly rub a small amount of cooking oil over the entire non-stick surface with a paper towel. Heat the pan over low heat for 30 seconds, then remove from heat and let it cool. Wipe off any excess oil. This helps to maintain the non-stick properties.
Operating Instructions
1. Pre-heating
- Place the pan on a suitable hob (gas, electric, ceramic, halogen). Do not use on induction hobs.
- Heat the pan gradually over medium heat. Cast aluminum heats quickly, so high heat is rarely necessary.
- A few drops of water should sizzle and evaporate quickly when the pan is adequately pre-heated.
2. Cooking
- Add a small amount of cooking oil or fat to the pan before adding food.
- Place food onto the ridged surface for grilling. The ridges allow fat to drain away, creating characteristic grill marks.
- Adjust heat as needed. The pan's efficient heat absorption means lower heat settings are often sufficient.
3. Oven Use
- The pan is oven safe up to 250°C (482°F).
- Always use oven mitts when transferring the pan to and from the oven, and when handling it after removal.
Maintenance and Cleaning
- Cool Down: Always allow the pan to cool completely before cleaning. Submerging a hot pan in cold water can cause warping.
- Dishwasher Safe: The HENDI Whitford Xylan Grill Pan is dishwasher safe. However, hand washing is recommended to prolong the life of the non-stick coating.
- Hand Washing: Wash with warm soapy water and a soft sponge or cloth. For stubborn food residues, soak the pan in warm soapy water for a short period before cleaning.
- Avoid Abrasives: Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or harsh scouring pads, as these can damage the non-stick surface.
- Drying: Dry the pan thoroughly after washing to prevent water spots.
Troubleshooting
- Food Sticking:
- Ensure the pan is properly pre-heated before adding food.
- Use a small amount of cooking oil or fat.
- Avoid overheating, which can degrade the non-stick properties over time.
- Re-condition the pan with oil as described in the "Setup" section.
- Uneven Cooking:
- Ensure the pan is centered on the heat source.
- Verify your hob is providing consistent heat.
- Pan Warping:
- Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as placing a hot pan under cold water. Always allow the pan to cool naturally.
- Do not overheat an empty pan.
