Setup and Installation

The Klipsch IC-650-TWH is designed for easy installation in ceilings, particularly with the use of a tile bridge for commercial ceiling grids.

Pre-Installation Checklist:

  • Ensure the mounting surface (ceiling) can support the speaker's weight.
  • Verify that there is sufficient clear space behind the mounting surface for the speaker's depth (approximately 11 inches).
  • Have appropriate speaker wire (e.g., 16-gauge or 14-gauge) ready.
  • Gather necessary tools: drill, drywall saw (if cutting new hole), wire strippers, screwdriver.

Installation Steps:

  1. Determine Placement: Choose an optimal location in the ceiling for sound dispersion. Consider obstructions like joists, pipes, or electrical conduits.
  2. Cut Opening: Use the provided template (if included) to trace the cutout hole on the ceiling. Carefully cut the opening using a drywall saw. The speaker requires an opening suitable for its 7-inch woofer and overall dimensions.
  3. Run Speaker Wire: Route the speaker wire from your amplifier/receiver to the cutout opening. Leave enough slack for connections.
  4. Connect Wiring: Strip approximately 1/2 inch of insulation from the speaker wire ends. Connect the positive (+) terminal of the speaker to the positive (+) terminal of your amplifier, and the negative (-) terminal of the speaker to the negative (-) terminal of your amplifier. Ensure a secure connection. The IC-650-TWH supports 70-volt systems, so ensure your amplifier is compatible and correctly configured.
  5. Insert Speaker: Carefully insert the speaker into the cutout opening. The speaker features dog-leg clamps that will secure it to the ceiling.
  6. Secure Speaker: Tighten the mounting screws on the front baffle of the speaker. This will rotate the dog-leg clamps outwards and clamp the speaker firmly to the ceiling. Do not overtighten.
  7. Attach Grille: Once the speaker is secured, attach the magnetic grille to the speaker baffle. Ensure it is flush with the ceiling surface.

For commercial installations, a tile bridge (sold separately) can be used to distribute the speaker's weight across ceiling tiles, providing additional support and stability.

Operating Instructions

Once installed and connected to a compatible audio amplifier, the Klipsch IC-650-TWH operates as a passive speaker. Its operation is controlled entirely by the connected audio source and amplifier.

  • Power On: Turn on your audio amplifier/receiver.
  • Source Selection: Select the desired audio source (e.g., music player, radio, streaming device) on your amplifier.
  • Volume Control: Adjust the volume level using your amplifier's controls. Start with a low volume and gradually increase it to a comfortable listening level.
  • 70-Volt System: If connected to a 70-volt commercial audio system, ensure the amplifier's output and the speaker's tap settings (if adjustable, typically on the speaker itself) are correctly matched for the desired power output per speaker.

The speaker is designed to deliver clear and deep bass audio for various commercial and outdoor applications.

Maintenance

The Klipsch IC-650-TWH speaker requires minimal maintenance to ensure long-lasting performance.

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the speaker grille and surrounding area with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and debris. Do not use liquid cleaners, sprays, or abrasive materials.
  • Inspection: Occasionally inspect the speaker for any visible damage or loose connections.
  • Environmental Considerations: While suitable for outdoor use, protect the speaker from direct, prolonged exposure to extreme weather conditions (e.g., heavy rain, snow, direct sunlight for extended periods) to maximize its lifespan.
