4. Installation and Setup

4.1 Choosing a Location

Select a location on an interior wall, approximately 5 feet (1.5 meters) above the floor. Avoid locations near heat sources (e.g., direct sunlight, lamps, appliances), cold drafts (e.g., windows, doors), or areas with poor air circulation.

4.2 Mounting the Thermostat

  1. Disconnect Power: Turn off all power to the furnace system at the main circuit breaker or fuse box before proceeding.
  2. Remove Old Thermostat (if applicable): Carefully remove the old thermostat from the wall. Note the wiring connections before disconnecting them. Take a picture if necessary.
  3. Prepare Wiring: Ensure the low-voltage wires (typically 2 wires for heat-only systems) are accessible from the wall opening.
  4. Mount Base Plate: If the thermostat has a separate base plate, secure it to the wall using the provided mounting screws. Ensure it is level.
  5. Connect Wires: Connect the furnace control wires to the appropriate terminals on the new thermostat. For a heat-only system, these are typically "R" (power) and "W" (heat call). Refer to the wiring diagram on the thermostat or in the original furnace manual if unsure.
  6. Attach Thermostat Body: Secure the thermostat body to the base plate or directly to the wall, ensuring wires are not pinched.
  7. Restore Power: Turn the power back on to the furnace system.

5. Operating Instructions

The Dometic 32300 thermostat features a simple mechanical knob for temperature adjustment.

  1. Turn On/Off: Some models may have a simple ON/OFF switch. Ensure it is in the "ON" position for operation. If no switch is present, the thermostat is always active when power is supplied.
  2. Set Temperature: Rotate the mechanical knob to your desired temperature setting. The scale typically shows both Celsius and Fahrenheit. The furnace will activate when the ambient temperature drops below your set point and will turn off once the set point is reached.
  3. Temperature Range: The thermostat typically operates within a range of approximately 50°F to 90°F (10°C to 30°C).

6. Maintenance

The Dometic 32300 thermostat requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the exterior of the thermostat with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Air Vents: Ensure the small vents on the thermostat casing are free from dust and debris, as these allow the thermostat to sense ambient temperature accurately.
  • Calibration Check: If you suspect inaccurate temperature readings, you can compare the thermostat's reading with a known accurate thermometer placed nearby. If significant discrepancies exist, the thermostat may need replacement.
