  2. Connect the Inflation Bulb: Ensure the inflation bulb is securely connected to the manometer. The air release valve on the bulb should be fully closed by turning it clockwise.

5. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for an accurate blood pressure measurement:

  1. Preparation: Sit quietly for at least 5 minutes before measurement. Ensure your arm is relaxed and supported at heart level. Do not talk or move during the measurement.
  2. Apply the Cuff: Wrap the cuff snugly around your bare upper arm, about 2-3 cm above the elbow joint. The artery mark on the cuff should align with your brachial artery (inner side of the arm).
  3. Position Stethoscope: Place the diaphragm of the stethoscope gently over the brachial artery, just below the cuff.
  4. Inflate the Cuff: Rapidly inflate the cuff by squeezing the inflation bulb until the manometer reads about 20-30 mmHg above your usual systolic pressure, or until the pulse sound disappears.
  5. Deflate and Listen: Slowly open the air release valve on the inflation bulb by turning it counter-clockwise, allowing the pressure to drop at a rate of 2-3 mmHg per second.
  6. Record Readings:
    • The first distinct tapping sound you hear through the stethoscope indicates the systolic (upper) blood pressure. Note the reading on the manometer.
    • Continue deflating. The point at which the tapping sounds disappear or become very faint indicates the diastolic (lower) blood pressure. Note this reading.
  7. Release Air: Fully open the air release valve to deflate the cuff completely. Remove the cuff and stethoscope.
