1. Introduction

3. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your WD Elements Desktop External Hard Drive:

1. Connect the AC Adapter: Plug the AC adapter into the power port on the back of the hard drive, then plug the adapter into a wall outlet. The drive requires external power to operate.

2. Connect the USB Cable: Connect the SuperSpeed USB-A cable to the USB 3.0 port on the back of the hard drive. Then, connect the other end of the USB cable to an available USB 3.0 port on your computer for optimal performance. The drive is also compatible with USB 2.0 ports.

3. Power On: Press the power button located on the back of the drive to turn it on. A small white LED indicator on the front of the drive will illuminate when powered on.
4. Computer Recognition: Your computer should automatically detect the new hard drive. For Windows operating systems (Windows 10, 8.1, 7), the drive is pre-formatted with NTFS and ready for immediate use. For Mac users, reformatting the drive may be required for full compatibility. 5. Maintenance

6. Troubleshooting

• Drive Not Recognized:
  • Check that the AC adapter is securely connected to both the drive and a working power outlet.
  • Ensure the USB cable is firmly connected to both the drive and your computer. Try a different USB port on your computer.
  • Verify the drive's power button is pressed and the LED indicator is illuminated.
  • If using a Mac, ensure the drive is formatted for macOS.
• Slow Transfer Speeds:
  • Confirm that the drive is connected to a USB 3.0 port on your computer (often identified by a blue insert).
  • Avoid transferring a very large number of small files simultaneously, as this can reduce overall speed.
• Drive Feels Warm:
  • It is normal for hard drives to generate some heat during operation. Ensure adequate ventilation around the drive.
