This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your Brother P-touch PTD600 Label Maker. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the device to ensure proper and safe operation.

Setup

Unpacking and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove the label maker and all accessories from the packaging. Verify that all components are present and undamaged. Retain the packaging for future storage or transport.

Powering the Device

The PTD600 can be powered using the included AC adapter or six AA alkaline batteries (not included).

Using the AC Adapter

Connect the AC adapter cable to the DC IN 9V port on the side of the label maker. Plug the AC adapter into a standard electrical outlet. The device will power on automatically or can be turned on using the power button.

Installing Batteries

Open the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the label maker. Insert six new AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-). Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Loading a Tape Cassette

The PTD600 uses Brother TZe tape cassettes. Ensure the tape cassette is compatible with your model.

  1. Open the tape cassette cover located at the rear of the label maker.
  2. Insert the TZe tape cassette firmly into the compartment, ensuring the tape and ribbon are aligned with the guides.
  3. Close the tape cassette cover until it clicks into place.

Operating Instructions

Basic Label Creation

  1. Turn on the label maker by pressing the Power button.
  2. The color display will show the "Create Label" screen.
  3. Use the QWERTY keyboard to type your desired text.
  4. Use the arrow keys to navigate and edit text.
  5. Press the Print button to print the label.
  6. After printing, manually cut the label using the cutter lever on the side of the device.

Formatting Labels

The PTD600 offers various formatting options accessible via the function (Fn) key and menu options.

  • Font Style: Press Fn + Font to change font styles.
  • Size: Adjust text size using the Fn + Size option.
  • Frames & Symbols: Add decorative frames and symbols to your labels.
  • Barcodes: The PTD600 supports printing various barcode types. Select the barcode option from the menu and enter the data. For example, a UPC-A barcode for "Paul's Italian Pizza & Pasta" with the number 0012345678905 can be generated.

PC/Mac Connectivity

Connect the PTD600 to your computer using the supplied USB cable to access advanced label design features with Brother's P-touch Editor software.

  • Download the latest P-touch Editor software and drivers from the official Brother support website.
  • Install the software on your PC or Mac.
  • Connect the label maker to your computer via USB.
  • Launch P-touch Editor to design and print labels directly from your computer.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Print Head

If print quality deteriorates (e.g., faint lines, missing dots), the print head may need cleaning.

  1. Turn off the label maker and disconnect the AC adapter or remove batteries.
  2. Open the tape cassette cover.
  3. Use a dry cotton swab to gently wipe the print head. Do not touch the print head with your bare hands.
  4. Close the tape cassette cover and reconnect power.

Cleaning the Cutter Blade

Dust or adhesive residue can accumulate on the cutter blade, affecting its performance.

  1. Turn off the label maker and disconnect power.
  2. Locate the cutter blade assembly near the tape exit slot.
  3. Use a dry cotton swab to carefully clean around the blade. Be cautious as the blade is sharp.

Tape Storage

Store TZe tape cassettes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to preserve their adhesive properties and print quality.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions
