Model: CO-9X-10T-FF | Brand: FireAngel
Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your FireAngel CO-9XT-FF Carbon Monoxide Alarm. This device is designed to detect carbon monoxide (CO) gas and alert you to its presence, helping to protect you and your family from the dangers of CO poisoning. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the alarm and retain it for future reference.
Safety Information
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that can be fatal. This alarm is designed to detect carbon monoxide gas from any source of combustion. Adhere to the following safety guidelines:
- Do not paint the alarm, as this can block the sensor and interfere with its operation.
- Do not obstruct the alarm's vents, as this can prevent CO from reaching the sensor.
- Regularly test the alarm as per the instructions in this manual to ensure it is functioning correctly.
- This alarm is not a substitute for proper installation, use, and maintenance of fuel-burning appliances, including ventilation and exhaust systems.
- In case of an alarm, ventilate the area immediately and contact emergency services or a qualified technician.

Setup and Installation
Choosing a Location
Ideally, a carbon monoxide alarm should be installed in every room with a fuel-burning appliance and in rooms where occupants spend considerable time while awake. Additional alarms may be installed to provide adequate warning.
- Recommended locations include: Boiler Room, Bedroom, Kitchen, Living Room.
- Avoid placing near vents, windows, or areas with high humidity, as these can affect sensor accuracy.
Mounting the Alarm
The alarm can be mounted on a wall or ceiling, or placed freestanding on a shelf.
To mount on a wall or ceiling:
- Ensure the screws provided with the alarm are used for secure mounting.
- Use the template (if provided in the packaging) for accurately marking hole positions on the wall or ceiling.
- Drill holes into the marked positions.
- Insert the plastic wall plugs into the drilled holes.
- Screw in the screws, ensuring they protrude from the wall by approximately 3mm to allow the detector to slot securely onto them.
To place on a shelf:
The base of the detector is designed to allow it to stand freely and stably on any flat surface, such as a shelf or table.
Activating the Battery
The device features a 10-year sealed-for-life lithium battery. To activate the alarm, pull the battery activation tab (if present) or follow the specific activation instructions provided on the device or its packaging. Once activated, the green Power LED should begin to flash.
Operation
LED Indicators
| Indicator | Status | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Power (Green LED) | Flashes every 45 seconds | Indicates the alarm is powered on and functioning correctly. |
| Fault (Amber LED) | Flashes | Indicates a fault with the alarm. Refer to the troubleshooting section for solutions. |
| Alarm (Red LED) | Flashes rapidly with audible alarm | Indicates carbon monoxide has been detected at dangerous levels. |
| End of Life (Amber LED) | Flashes twice every 45 seconds | Indicates the alarm has reached the end of its operational life (7 years). The unit must be replaced immediately. |
Alarm Conditions
When carbon monoxide is detected at dangerous levels, the alarm will sound a loud siren (typically 85 dB at 3 meters) and the red LED will flash rapidly.
What to do if the alarm sounds:
- Immediately move to fresh air outdoors or open all doors and windows to ventilate the area thoroughly.
- Turn off all fuel-burning appliances (e.g., boiler, gas cooker, fireplace).
- Do not re-enter the premises until the alarm has stopped and the area has been thoroughly ventilated.
- Seek medical attention for anyone experiencing symptoms of CO poisoning (headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue).
- Contact a qualified technician to investigate the source of CO and ensure it is safe to re-enter the property.
Testing the Alarm
It is recommended to test your carbon monoxide alarm weekly to ensure proper functionality and to familiarize yourself with the alarm sound.
- Press and hold the "Test/Reset" button located on the front of the alarm.
- The alarm will sound a loud siren (a series of beeps) and the red LED will flash, indicating the alarm is working correctly.
- Release the button. The alarm should stop sounding.
If the alarm does not sound during testing, refer to the troubleshooting section immediately.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Clean the alarm regularly to prevent dust and debris from accumulating and affecting its performance. A clean alarm ensures accurate readings and reliable operation.
- Use a soft, slightly damp cloth to wipe the exterior of the alarm.
- Do not use cleaning solvents, chemicals, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the sensor or casing.
- Do not paint the alarm.
Battery Information
The FireAngel CO-9XT-FF features a sealed-for-life lithium battery designed to last for the entire 7-year lifespan of the alarm. The battery is not replaceable. When the alarm reaches its end of life, it will indicate this with a specific amber LED flash pattern (see LED Indicators table) and the entire unit must be replaced.
