- Search Coil: The circular part that detects metal objects.
- Knob & Connector: Connects the search coil to the shaft.
- Lock Nut: Secures the shaft length.
- Cable: Connects the search coil to the control box.
- Control Box: Houses the electronics, display, and controls.
- Arm Support: Provides comfort and stability during use.
- Adjustable Shaft: Allows for length customization (1m to 1.25m).
Setup and Assembly
Follow these steps to assemble your SuperEye S500 Metal Detector:
- Attach the Search Coil: Connect the search coil to the lower shaft using the provided knob and connector. Ensure it is securely fastened.
- Assemble the Shaft: Connect the lower, middle, and upper shafts. Adjust the length to a comfortable position using the lock nut. The adjustable length ranges from 1 meter to 1.25 meters.
- Mount the Control Box: Slide the control box onto the upper shaft. Ensure the cable from the search coil is neatly wrapped around the shaft and plugged into the control box.
- Install Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the control box. Insert 6 AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely. (Batteries not included)

Operating Instructions
The S500 Metal Detector offers 9 detection functions for precise control over your search.

Figure 5: Key operational features including Auto Ground Balance and Motion Discrimination.
- Power On/Off: Use the designated switch on the control box to turn the detector on or off.
- Sensitivity Adjustment: Adjust the sensitivity knob to control the detection depth. Higher sensitivity detects deeper objects but may also pick up more interference.
- Discrimination Control: This function allows you to ignore certain types of metal (e.g., iron) and focus on more valuable targets. Refer to the control panel markings for specific settings.
- Target Indicator: The analog meter on the control box will indicate the strength of the detected signal. A stronger signal suggests a larger or closer object.

Figure 6: The target indicator displaying signal strength and low battery warning.
- Waterproof Search Coil: The 8-inch search coil is waterproof, allowing for detection in shallow water and humid environments. Ensure the control box is kept dry as it is not waterproof.

- Earphone Jack: A 3.5mm (1/8") earphone jack is provided for private listening to detection signals. (Earphones not supplied)
- All-Metal Mode: Detects all types of metal without discrimination.
- Multiple Tones Audio: Different audio tones indicate different types of metal.
- Pinpoint Function: Helps to precisely locate the detected object.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the detector with a damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure the search coil is clean, especially after use in wet or muddy conditions.
- Storage: Store the metal detector in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
- Battery Care: Always use fresh batteries. If the low battery indicator appears, replace all 6 AA batteries promptly to ensure optimal performance.
- Coil Protection: While the search coil is waterproof, avoid submerging the control box. Inspect the coil cable regularly for any signs of wear or damage.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Detector does not power on. | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. | Check battery polarity; replace with fresh AA batteries. |
| No detection or weak signals. | Sensitivity too low; incorrect discrimination setting; coil not parallel to ground. | Increase sensitivity; adjust discrimination; sweep coil parallel to the ground. |
| False signals or erratic behavior. | High electromagnetic interference; mineralized ground; loose cable connection. | Move away from power lines/electronics; reduce sensitivity; check all cable connections. |
| Low battery indicator stays on. | Batteries are low. | Replace all 6 AA batteries. |
