3. Setup

3.1 Charging the Receiver

The ARC Additional Receiver comes with a Lithium Polymer battery. Before first use, fully charge the receiver. Connect the charger to the charging port on the receiver. The indicator light will show charging status (refer to your main ARC system manual for specific light indications).

3.2 Attaching to the Collar

The receiver is designed to integrate with the Biothane collar strap. Thread the collar strap through the loops on the receiver, ensuring the contact points are positioned correctly to make contact with your dog's skin.

3.3 Pairing with Transmitter

To use the additional receiver, it must be paired with your existing Dogtra ARC transmitter. Follow the pairing instructions provided in your main Dogtra ARC system manual. Typically, this involves placing the receiver in pairing mode and activating a pairing function on the transmitter.

3.4 Fitting the Collar

Proper collar fit is crucial for effective and humane operation. The contact points must have consistent contact with your dog's skin. The collar should be snug enough that two fingers cannot fit underneath it, but not so tight as to restrict breathing or cause discomfort. Rotate the collar periodically to prevent pressure sores.

4. Operating the Receiver

The ARC Additional Receiver works in conjunction with your Dogtra ARC transmitter, which provides 127 levels of precise stimulation control. This wide range allows for fine-tuning the stimulation level to your dog's specific temperament and training needs.

4.1 Understanding Stimulation Levels

The 127 levels of stimulation allow for highly customized training. Start at the lowest level and gradually increase until your dog shows a subtle response, such as a head tilt or ear twitch. This is your dog's "recognition level." Always use the lowest effective level.

Video 4.1: Colleen Steckloff explains the benefits of Dogtra's 127 stimulation levels. This video highlights the precision and versatility offered by the wide range of stimulation levels for tailored dog training.

4.2 Correction Types

  • Nick: Delivers a single, quick (½-second) stimulation pulse. Ideal for immediate attention or breaking focus.
  • Constant: Delivers continuous stimulation for up to 12 seconds, or as long as the button is pressed. Use for sustained attention or to reinforce commands. Release the button immediately once the dog complies.
  • Pager (Vibration): Provides a non-stimulating vibration. Useful as a warning, for sensitive dogs, or for silent communication.

4.3 Range Considerations

The 3/4-mile range is an approximate line-of-sight distance. Actual range may vary depending on terrain, weather conditions, vegetation, and electrical interference from other devices. For optimal range, ensure the transmitter antenna is pointed upwards and away from your body.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Receiver

Regularly clean the receiver and contact points to ensure proper function and hygiene. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the unit. For contact points, a mild rubbing alcohol solution can be used to remove dirt and debris. Ensure the unit is completely dry before charging or storing.

5.2 Battery Care

The receiver uses a Lithium Polymer battery. To prolong battery life:

  • Avoid extreme temperatures.
  • Do not store the unit with a completely depleted battery for extended periods.
  • Charge the unit fully before long-term storage.

5.3 Waterproofing

The IPX9K certification means the receiver is highly resistant to water. However, always ensure the charging port cover is securely closed when the unit is not charging to maintain its waterproof integrity.

6. Troubleshooting
