Operating Instructions
1. Basic Coffee Preparation
The machine offers various one-touch coffee options:
- Espresso: Press the Espresso button for a standard espresso.
- Long Coffee: Press the Long Coffee button for a longer, filter-style coffee.
- Doppio+: Press the Doppio+ button for a double espresso with extra aroma and energy.
- My Coffee: This customizable option allows you to program your preferred coffee strength and volume.
To prepare coffee:
- Ensure the water tank is filled and the bean hopper contains coffee beans.
- Place one or two cups under the coffee spouts.
- Select your desired coffee type from the control panel.
- The machine will grind the beans, brew, and dispense the coffee.
2. Adjusting Coffee Strength and Quantity
- Strength: Before brewing, you can adjust the coffee strength using the dedicated button or menu option. Options typically range from extra-mild to extra-strong.
- Quantity: For customizable drinks like "My Coffee," you can program the desired volume by pressing and holding the button until the desired amount is dispensed, then releasing it to save.
- Grind Setting: The grind adjuster is located inside the bean hopper. Adjust it one click at a time while the grinder is running (e.g., during a coffee preparation cycle) to change the fineness of the grind. Finer grind for stronger coffee, coarser for lighter.
3. Using the Milk Frother (Steam Wand)
The adjustable milk frother allows you to manually prepare frothed milk for cappuccinos or hot milk for lattes.

Figure 4: A hand holding a stainless steel milk jug under the steam wand, demonstrating the frothing process. The steam wand is positioned to create foam for milk-based beverages.
- Fill a jug with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy).
- Position the steam wand into the milk.
- Activate the steam function on the control panel.
- Move the jug up and down to achieve desired froth consistency.
- Once finished, turn off the steam function.
- Important: Clean the steam wand immediately after each use to prevent milk residue from drying.
4. Using Pre-Ground Coffee
This machine also supports pre-ground coffee for single servings.
- Select the pre-ground coffee option from the menu.
- When prompted by the machine, open the pre-ground coffee funnel (usually next to the bean hopper).
- Add one level scoop of pre-ground coffee using the provided measuring spoon. Do not overfill.
- Close the funnel and proceed with your coffee selection.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure optimal performance and longevity of your coffee machine.
1. Daily Cleaning
- Automatic Rinsing: The machine performs an automatic rinse cycle when turned on and off. Ensure a cup is placed under the spouts.
- Drip Tray and Grounds Container: Empty and rinse the drip tray and grounds container daily or when the "empty grounds" indicator appears. These parts are often dishwasher safe.
- Steam Wand: After each use, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth and purge a small amount of steam to clear any milk residue. For thorough cleaning, the outer casing of the wand can be removed and rinsed.
2. Weekly Cleaning (Brew Unit)
The brew unit should be cleaned weekly to prevent coffee oil buildup.
- Turn off and unplug the machine.
- Open the service door (usually on the side).
- Press the two red release buttons and pull out the brew unit.
- Rinse the brew unit thoroughly under running tap water until no coffee residue is visible.
- Allow it to air dry completely before reinserting.
- Check the lubrication of the brew unit and re-grease with food-grade lubricant if necessary.
3. Descaling
The machine will indicate when descaling is required based on your water hardness setting. Use only De'Longhi descaling solution.
- Follow the instructions provided with the descaling solution and on the machine's display.
- Typically, this involves emptying the water tank, adding the descaling solution mixed with water, and running a descaling cycle.
- After the descaling cycle, rinse the water tank and run several full water tanks through the machine to flush out any remaining solution.
4. Water Filter Replacement
Replace the water filter approximately every two months, or as indicated by the machine, to maintain water quality and reduce limescale buildup.
