Operating Instructions

The TC-2001 effectively doubles the focal length of the attached lens. For example, a 300mm lens will become a 600mm lens when used with this teleconverter.

Aperture Considerations

When using the 2.0x teleconverter, the effective aperture of your lens will be reduced by two stops. For instance, a lens with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 will become f/5.6. This reduction in light gathering capability should be considered when shooting in low-light conditions or when a fast shutter speed is required.

Autofocus Performance

Autofocus performance may be affected, especially with lenses that have a slower maximum aperture. In some cases, manual focus may be necessary to achieve precise focus. Refer to your lens and camera manuals for specific compatibility and performance details.

Image Quality

While designed to maintain high image quality, the addition of a teleconverter can sometimes introduce minor optical imperfections. For optimal results, use the teleconverter with high-quality, compatible Sigma lenses.

Maintenance and Care

  • Keep the teleconverter caps on when not in use to protect the optical elements from dust and scratches.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the exterior of the teleconverter.
  • For lens elements, use a lens cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth specifically designed for optics. Avoid touching the glass surfaces with bare hands.
  • Store the teleconverter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Avoid exposing the teleconverter to excessive moisture or dust.

Troubleshooting

Poor Image Quality

  • Check Compatibility: Ensure your lens is compatible with the TC-2001.
  • Clean Elements: Dust or smudges on the teleconverter or lens elements can degrade image quality. Clean them carefully.
  • Lighting Conditions: Teleconverters reduce effective aperture, requiring more light. Shoot in well-lit conditions or adjust ISO/shutter speed accordingly.
  • Tripod Use: For maximum sharpness, especially at longer focal lengths, use a sturdy tripod.

Autofocus Issues

  • Insufficient Light: Low light conditions can hinder autofocus performance, especially with the reduced effective aperture.
  • Lens Aperture: Some lenses may not support autofocus with a 2.0x teleconverter if their maximum aperture becomes too slow (e.g., slower than f/8).
  • Switch to Manual Focus: If autofocus struggles, switch to manual focus for precise control.
