3. Setup
3.1 Attaching the Lens
- Ensure both the camera and lens are powered off.
- Remove the rear lens cap and the camera body cap.
- Align the white mounting marks on the lens with the corresponding mark on the camera body.
- Insert the lens into the camera mount and rotate it clockwise until it clicks into place. Do not force the lens.
- Attach the front lens cap when not in use to protect the front element.
3.2 Attaching the Lens Hood
The lens hood helps to prevent stray light from entering the lens, reducing flare and ghosting. Align the red dot on the lens hood with the red dot on the front of the lens, then rotate the hood clockwise until it locks securely.
3.3 Using the Tripod Collar
The lens includes a removable tripod collar for better balance when mounted on a tripod, especially with heavier camera bodies. Loosen the locking knob on the collar to rotate the lens for vertical or horizontal shooting, or to remove the collar if desired.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Zooming
Rotate the zoom ring to adjust the focal length between 50mm and 140mm. The lens features internal zooming, meaning its physical length does not change when zooming.
4.2 Focusing
The lens supports both autofocus (AF) and manual focus (MF). The focus mode is typically controlled via your camera body settings. For manual focus, rotate the focus ring to achieve sharp focus. The linear motor ensures fast and quiet autofocus performance.
4.3 Optical Image Stabilization (OIS)
The OIS system helps to reduce blur caused by camera shake, particularly useful at longer focal lengths or in low light conditions. The OIS function is controlled via a switch on the lens barrel or through your camera's menu. Refer to your camera's manual for specific OIS settings.
4.4 Aperture Control
The lens features an aperture ring for direct control over the aperture setting. Rotate the aperture ring to select your desired F-stop. The constant F2.8 aperture allows for consistent exposure and shallow depth of field across the entire zoom range.

5. Maintenance and Care
5.1 Cleaning the Lens
- Use a blower brush to remove dust and loose particles from the lens surfaces.
- For smudges or fingerprints, use a clean, soft microfiber cloth specifically designed for optics, along with a small amount of lens cleaning solution. Apply the solution to the cloth, not directly to the lens.
- Avoid touching the lens elements with your fingers.
5.2 Storage
- Always attach the front and rear lens caps when the lens is not in use.
- Store the lens in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- If storing for extended periods, consider using a dehumidifying agent to prevent mold growth.
5.3 Weather Resistance
While the lens is weather-resistant, it is not waterproof. Avoid prolonged exposure to heavy rain or direct water spray. Ensure all lens caps are securely attached when not in use in adverse conditions.
6. Troubleshooting
- Lens not recognized by camera: Ensure the lens is securely attached to the camera body. Power off and restart the camera. Check camera firmware for updates.
- Autofocus issues: Verify the camera is set to an appropriate AF mode. Ensure there is sufficient light and contrast in the scene. Clean lens contacts on both the lens and camera body.
- Blurred images: Check OIS settings. Ensure shutter speed is fast enough for the focal length and subject motion. Verify focus is accurate.
- Dust inside lens: Minor dust particles inside the lens are common and rarely affect image quality. If large particles or significant impact on images are observed, contact Fujifilm service.
