4. Operating Instructions

This section outlines the basic operation of the PC700 Meter.

4.1 Powering On/Off

  • Press the POWER button to turn the meter on.
  • Press and hold the POWER button to turn the meter off.

4.2 Mode Selection

The PC700 meter can measure pH, mV, conductivity, TDS, and temperature. Use the dedicated mode buttons (e.g., pH/mV, COND/TDS) to switch between measurement parameters.

4.3 Calibration

Accurate measurements require proper calibration. The PC700 supports up to 6-point pH calibration and conductivity cell constant entry.

  • pH Calibration: The meter features auto-buffer recognition for USA (1.68, 4.01, 7.00, 10.01, 12.45) and NIST (1.68, 4.01, 6.18, 9.86, 12.45) buffer sets. Refer to the quick reference card for detailed calibration steps.
  • Conductivity Calibration: Calibrate using standard solutions. The meter stores conductivity/TDS cell constants (0.1, 1.0, and 10).

4.4 Temperature Compensation

The meter offers automatic (ATC) or manual temperature compensation (MTC). Temperature can be displayed in either degrees Fahrenheit (°F) or Celsius (°C).

4.5 Data Storage and Retrieval

The PC700 can store up to 100 data sets. Use the MEM button to store readings and the RECALL function to retrieve stored data.

4.6 Display Hold

Press the HOLD button to freeze the current reading on the display for easier recording.

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your PC700 Meter.

  • Cleaning the Meter: Wipe the meter's exterior with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the membrane keypad is kept clean.
  • Electrode Care:
    • Always keep the pH electrode bulb hydrated in storage solution when not in use. Never store in distilled water.
    • Rinse probes with distilled water after each use to prevent sample contamination and buildup.
    • Inspect probes regularly for damage or buildup. Clean as necessary using appropriate cleaning solutions recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Storage: Store the meter and probes in a clean, dry environment away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.

6. Troubleshooting

Refer to the following table for common issues and their solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Inaccurate pH readingsElectrode not calibrated; dirty electrode; expired buffer solutions; damaged electrodeCalibrate the pH electrode; clean the electrode; use fresh buffer solutions; replace the electrode if damaged
Unstable conductivity readingsDirty conductivity cell; air bubbles in cell; incorrect cell constantClean the conductivity cell; gently tap the probe to dislodge bubbles; verify or recalibrate cell constant
Meter does not power onNo power supply; faulty power adapterCheck power connection; ensure outlet is functional; test with a different power adapter if available
Display shows 'Error' messageCalibration error; probe malfunctionRefer to the quick reference card for specific error codes; re-calibrate or check probe connections

For issues not listed, consult the quick reference card or contact customer support.
