Steelman Inner Liner Sealer Instruction Manual

Model: G10107

Product Overview

The Steelman Inner Liner Sealer is designed to provide a complete seal for tire injury repairs and to rebuild the over-buffed area during the tire repair procedure. This fast-drying formula is suitable for both inner tubes and tubeless tires, ensuring a durable and effective seal.

It is an essential component in the final step of the Rubber Manufacturer's Association (RMA) tire repair process for pneumatic tires, ensuring the integrity of the repair and the surrounding area.

Setup and Preparation

Proper preparation of the tire or inner tube is crucial for effective sealing. Follow these steps before applying the sealer:

  1. Identify and Repair Injury: Ensure the tire or inner tube injury has been properly repaired according to Rubber Manufacturer's Association (RMA) guidelines. This product is for sealing the repair, not for performing the primary repair.
  2. Clean the Area: Thoroughly clean the area around the repair and any over-buffed surfaces. Remove all dirt, dust, grease, and moisture. A scotch pad and paint thinner can be used for cleaning, followed by wiping off any residue.
  3. Break the Bead (for tubeless tires): If sealing a tire bead, the tire bead must be broken and the rim cleaned of any corrosion or debris.
  4. Ensure Dry Surface: The surface must be completely dry before application to ensure proper adhesion and curing.

Operating Instructions

The sealer features a fast-drying formula, requiring quick application. The applicator brush is conveniently attached to the underside of the cap.

  1. Open Can: Carefully open the can and remove the applicator brush attached to the cap.
  2. Apply Sealer: Apply a generous, even coat of the sealer to the prepared area. This includes the tire injury repair, the over-buffed area, or along the tire bead if sealing a rim leak.
  3. Work Quickly: Due to its fast-drying nature, apply the sealer and proceed with reassembly (e.g., re-setting the tire bead) immediately. The sealer can dry solid in under a minute.
  4. Inflate Tire: Once the sealer is applied and the tire is reassembled, inflate the tire to the recommended pressure.
  5. Check for Leaks: After inflation, check for any remaining leaks using a soapy water solution. Apply the solution to the sealed area and observe for bubbles.

Maintenance and Storage

To ensure the longevity and effectiveness of your Steelman Inner Liner Sealer:

  • Seal Tightly: Always ensure the cap is tightly sealed after each use to prevent the sealer from drying out.
  • Store Properly: Store the can in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Keep Clean: Wipe any excess sealer from the rim of the can before sealing to ensure a clean closure.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues after applying the sealer, consider the following:

  • Leak Persists:
    • Ensure the surface was thoroughly cleaned and dry before application. Any contaminants can prevent proper adhesion.
    • Verify that the primary tire repair was correctly executed. The sealer is for sealing, not for fixing structural damage.
    • If sealing a bead leak, ensure the bead was fully seated and the rim was free of corrosion. Sometimes, re-inflating the tire to a higher pressure temporarily and gently bouncing or pounding the tire (with caution) can help seat the bead fully.
    • Reapply the sealer if necessary, ensuring quick application and immediate reassembly.
  • Sealer Dried in Can:
    • This indicates the cap was not sealed tightly enough. Always ensure an airtight seal after use.
