1. Important Safety Instructions

Please read these instructions carefully before using the LAFAYETTE Old Disco Turntable. Keep this manual for future reference.

  • Power Source: Only use the turntable with the specified power supply. Ensure the voltage matches your local power grid.
  • Water and Moisture: Do not expose the unit to rain, moisture, or dripping/splashing liquids. Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the apparatus.
  • Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation. Do not block any ventilation openings.
  • Heat: Do not place near heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
  • Cleaning: Clean only with a dry cloth.
  • Servicing: Do not attempt to service this product yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
  • Placement: Place the unit on a stable, flat surface to prevent damage from falling.

3.1. Front Panel Controls

  • REC Button: Initiates recording from vinyl to USB/SD.
  • DEL Button: Deletes the currently playing track from USB/SD.
  • PREV Button: Skips to the previous track (USB/SD/Bluetooth).
  • PLAY/PAUSE Button: Plays or pauses audio playback (USB/SD/Bluetooth).
  • NEXT Button: Skips to the next track (USB/SD/Bluetooth).
  • FUNCTION/SEARCH Button: Switches between input modes (Phono, USB, SD, Bluetooth) and initiates search function in digital modes.
  • USB Port: Connect USB flash drives for playback and recording.
  • SD/MMC Card Slot: Insert SD or MMC cards for playback and recording.
  • Display: Shows current mode, track number, and other relevant information.

3.2. Turntable Components

  • Dust Cover: Protects the turntable from dust.
  • Platter: Where the record is placed.
  • Spindle: Holds the record in place.
  • Tonearm: Holds the stylus and tracks the record grooves.
  • Stylus (Needle): Reads the audio information from the record.
  • Speed Selector: Switch to select 33 1/3, 45, or 78 RPM.
  • Auto-Stop Switch: Enables or disables automatic stopping of the platter at the end of a record.

4. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your LAFAYETTE Old Disco Turntable.

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging for future transport or storage.
  2. Placement: Place the turntable on a stable, level surface away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive dust.
  3. Power Connection: Connect the power adapter to the DC input on the back of the turntable, then plug the adapter into a wall outlet.
  4. Dust Cover: Attach the dust cover to the hinges on the back of the unit.
  5. Stylus Protection: Remove the stylus protector from the needle before use.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Playing Records

  1. Open the dust cover.
  2. Place a record on the platter.
  3. Select the correct speed (33 1/3, 45, or 78 RPM) using the speed selector switch. For 45 RPM records, place the included adapter on the spindle.
  4. Push the FUNCTION/SEARCH button until 'PH' (Phono) appears on the display.
  5. Gently lift the tonearm using the cueing lever and position the stylus over the desired track on the record.
  6. Lower the tonearm slowly using the cueing lever. The record will begin to play.
  7. Adjust the volume using the volume knob.
  8. At the end of the record, if the auto-stop function is enabled, the platter will stop spinning. Otherwise, manually lift the tonearm and return it to its rest.

5.2. Bluetooth Operation

  1. Push the FUNCTION/SEARCH button until 'BT' (Bluetooth) appears on the display. The unit will enter pairing mode, indicated by a flashing 'BT'.
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone, tablet, or other audio device.
  3. Search for 'OLD DISCO' in your device's Bluetooth list and select it to pair.
  4. Once paired, 'BT' will stop flashing. You can now stream audio from your device to the turntable.
  5. Use the PLAY/PAUSE, PREV, and NEXT buttons on the turntable or your connected device to control playback.

5.3. USB/SD Card Playback

  1. Insert a USB flash drive into the USB port or an SD/MMC card into the SD card slot.
  2. Push the FUNCTION/SEARCH button until 'USB' or 'SD' appears on the display. The unit will automatically begin playing MP3 files.
  3. Use the PLAY/PAUSE, PREV, and NEXT buttons to control playback.
  4. To delete a track, press the DEL button during playback. Confirm deletion if prompted.

5.4. Recording from Vinyl to USB/SD Card

  1. Insert a USB flash drive or SD/MMC card into the respective slot. Ensure it has sufficient free space.
  2. Push the FUNCTION/SEARCH button until 'PH' (Phono) appears on the display.
  3. Start playing the vinyl record you wish to record.
  4. Press the REC button. The display will show 'REC' and recording will begin.
  5. To stop recording, press the REC button again. The recorded file will be saved as an MP3 on your USB drive or SD card.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning the Unit

  • Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
  • Keep the dust cover closed when not in use to prevent dust accumulation.

6.2. Stylus Care

  • Gently clean the stylus periodically with a soft brush, brushing from back to front.
  • Replace the stylus when you notice a decrease in sound quality or visible wear.

6.3. Record Care

  • Handle records by their edges to avoid touching the grooves.
  • Store records vertically in their sleeves in a cool, dry place.
  • Clean records regularly with a dedicated record cleaning brush or solution.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues, refer to the following troubleshooting guide before contacting support.

  • No Power:
    • Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to the unit and the wall outlet.
    • Check if the wall outlet is functioning correctly by plugging in another device.
  • No Sound:
    • Increase the volume using the volume knob.
    • Ensure the correct input mode (Phono, Bluetooth, USB, SD) is selected.
    • For vinyl playback, ensure the stylus protector is removed and the tonearm is properly lowered onto the record.
    • If using Bluetooth, ensure the device is properly paired and volume is up on both the turntable and the connected device.
  • Poor Sound Quality:
    • Clean the stylus and record.
    • Ensure the record is clean and free of scratches.
    • Check if the stylus is worn and needs replacement.
    • Ensure the turntable is on a stable, level surface to prevent vibrations.
  • Recording Issues:
    • Ensure the USB drive or SD card has sufficient free space and is formatted correctly (FAT32).
    • Check that the recording process was initiated correctly by pressing the REC button.
