SANSUI AU-D607X Integrated Amplifier User Manual

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the SANSUI AU-D607X Integrated Amplifier. This manual provides essential information for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your amplifier. To ensure optimal performance and longevity, please read these instructions thoroughly before use and retain them for future reference.

2. Safety Information

  • Power Supply: Connect the amplifier only to an AC power source of the correct voltage as indicated on the rear panel.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit. Do not block ventilation openings. Avoid placing the amplifier in an enclosed space or on soft surfaces that may obstruct airflow.
  • Moisture: To prevent fire or shock hazards, do not expose the unit to rain or moisture. Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the amplifier.
  • Heat: Keep the unit away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other heat-producing appliances.
  • Cleaning: Unplug the unit from the wall outlet before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners.
  • Servicing: Do not attempt to service this product yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking and Placement

Carefully remove the amplifier from its packaging. Place the unit on a stable, level surface, ensuring there is sufficient space for ventilation around all sides. Avoid direct sunlight, excessive dust, vibrations, and extreme temperatures.

3.2 Connecting Speakers

Connect your speakers to the speaker terminals on the rear panel. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) for each speaker. The AU-D607X supports two pairs of speakers (A and B). Use appropriate speaker wire for optimal sound quality.

3.3 Connecting Audio Sources

Connect your audio components (e.g., CD player, turntable, tuner, tape deck) to the corresponding input jacks on the rear panel using RCA cables. For a turntable, connect to the 'PHONO' input and ensure the ground wire is securely attached to the amplifier's ground terminal.

3.4 Power Connection

After all audio and speaker connections are made, plug the amplifier's power cord into a suitable AC wall outlet.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

Press the POWER switch located on the front panel to turn the amplifier on or off.

4.2 Input Selection

Use the INPUT SELECTOR knob or buttons to choose your desired audio source (e.g., PHONO, TUNER, CD, AUX, TAPE).

4.3 Volume Control

Adjust the large VOLUME knob to increase or decrease the sound level. Start with a low volume setting before increasing it to a comfortable listening level.

4.4 Tone Controls

The BASS and TREBLE knobs allow you to adjust the low and high frequency response of the sound. Turn clockwise to boost, counter-clockwise to cut. Set to the center position for a flat frequency response.

4.5 Balance Control

The BALANCE knob adjusts the relative volume between the left and right channels. Use it to compensate for uneven sound distribution in your listening environment. Set to the center for equal output.

4.6 Speaker Selector

Use the SPEAKERS selector switch (A/B) to choose which pair of speakers (A, B, or A+B) you wish to use. Ensure at least one speaker pair is selected for sound output.

4.7 Headphone Output

Connect headphones to the PHONES jack on the front panel. When headphones are connected, speaker output is typically muted.

4.8 Special Features (if applicable)

  • SUBSONIC: Activates a filter to cut very low frequencies, often useful when playing warped records to reduce rumble.
  • LOUDNESS: Engages a circuit that boosts bass and treble frequencies at low volume levels to compensate for the ear's reduced sensitivity to these frequencies.
  • REC SELECTOR: Allows you to select the source for recording, independent of the listening source.

5. Maintenance

To maintain the appearance and performance of your amplifier:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
  • Ventilation: Periodically check that the ventilation openings are free from dust and debris.
  • Storage: If storing the unit for an extended period, disconnect it from power and cover it to protect against dust.
