3. Setup

3.1. Powering the Device

The DR-22WL operates on 2 AA batteries. Ensure fresh alkaline batteries are inserted correctly according to the polarity markings in the battery compartment. Alternatively, the device can be powered via a USB connection.

3.2. Inserting a Memory Card

The recorder supports MicroSD, MicroSDHC, and MicroSDXC cards. Gently insert a compatible memory card into the designated slot until it clicks into place. Ensure the card is formatted by the device before first use to guarantee optimal performance.

3.3. Initial Wi-Fi Configuration

To utilize the Wi-Fi features, download the dedicated Tascam app for iOS or Android devices. Activate Wi-Fi on the DR-22WL using the dedicated button. Follow the on-screen instructions on the recorder and in the app to establish a connection. This allows for remote control and file management.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Basic Recording

1. Power On: Press and hold the power button until the display illuminates.
2. Select Scene: Rotate the EZ Dial to select a preset scene (e.g., Voice, Instrument, Concert) or 'M' for manual settings.
3. Adjust Input Level: Use the dedicated INPUT LEVEL knob to set the recording level. Monitor the on-screen meters to avoid clipping (distortion).
4. Start Recording: Press the RECORD button once to arm, then again to start recording. The record indicator will illuminate red.
5. Stop Recording: Press the STOP button.

4.2. Playback

After recording, navigate through your files using the directional buttons and press the PLAY button to listen. Adjust playback volume using the side volume controls.

4.3. Wi-Fi Remote Control and File Transfer

Once connected to the Tascam app, you can remotely start/stop recording, adjust input levels, and transfer recorded files to your smartphone or tablet. This is particularly useful for positioning the recorder in an optimal location while controlling it from a distance.

5. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the device. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.

• Wi-Fi connection issues: Ensure the Wi-Fi function is enabled on the recorder and your smart device. Check that the Tascam app is up-to-date.
• Distorted audio: Reduce the input level using the INPUT LEVEL knob. Consider using the Dual Recording Mode to capture a safety track.
