Safety Information

Always observe safety precautions when using electrical testing equipment. Failure to do so may result in injury or damage to the meter or equipment under test.

  • Ensure the meter is in good working condition before use.
  • Do not exceed the maximum input limits for any measurement range.
  • Exercise caution when working with live circuits.
  • Replace the battery when the low battery indicator appears to ensure accurate readings.
  • Do not operate the meter in explosive atmospheres.

Setup

Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the meter.
  2. Use a screwdriver to open the compartment.
  3. Insert a 9V 6F22 battery, observing the correct polarity.
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it.

Connecting Test Leads

  • For voltage, resistance, and continuity measurements, insert the red test lead into the "VΩ" jack and the black test lead into the "COM" jack.
  • For insulation testing (if applicable and using an external unit), refer to the specific instructions for the external unit and the "EXT" jack.

Operating Instructions

The DT266 clamp meter features a rotary switch to select the desired measurement function and range.

Measuring AC Current (ACA)

  1. Set the rotary switch to the desired AC Current (A~) range (e.g., 200A or 1000A).
  2. Press the trigger to open the clamp jaw.
  3. Enclose only one conductor of the circuit within the clamp jaw. Ensure the jaw is fully closed.
  4. Read the AC current value on the LCD display.

Note: Do not clamp around multiple conductors when measuring AC current, as this will result in an inaccurate reading (the magnetic fields will cancel each other out).

Measuring DC Voltage (DCV)

  1. Insert the red test lead into the "VΩ" jack and the black test lead into the "COM" jack.
  2. Set the rotary switch to the desired DC Voltage (V=) range (e.g., 1000V).
  3. Connect the test leads across the component or circuit to be measured, observing polarity.
  4. Read the DC voltage value on the LCD display.

Measuring AC Voltage (ACV)

  1. Insert the red test lead into the "VΩ" jack and the black test lead into the "COM" jack.
  2. Set the rotary switch to the desired AC Voltage (V~) range (e.g., 750V).
  3. Connect the test leads across the component or circuit to be measured.
  4. Read the AC voltage value on the LCD display.

Measuring Resistance (OHM)

  1. Insert the red test lead into the "VΩ" jack and the black test lead into the "COM" jack.
  2. Set the rotary switch to the desired Resistance (Ω) range (e.g., 200Ω, 20KΩ).
  3. Ensure the circuit or component under test is de-energized before connecting the test leads.
  4. Connect the test leads across the component.
  5. Read the resistance value on the LCD display.

Continuity Test

  1. Insert the red test lead into the "VΩ" jack and the black test lead into the "COM" jack.
  2. Set the rotary switch to the continuity buzzer position (often indicated by a diode symbol or sound wave icon).
  3. Ensure the circuit or component under test is de-energized.
  4. Connect the test leads across the component.
  5. If continuity exists (low resistance), the meter will emit an audible beep.

Data Hold Function

The DT266 features a "DATA HOLD" button (often labeled "HOLD" or "DH"). Press this button to freeze the current reading on the LCD display. Press it again to release the hold and resume live readings.

Maintenance

Cleaning

Wipe the meter's casing with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the meter is dry before storage or use.

Battery Replacement

When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the 9V battery promptly to ensure accurate measurements. Refer to the "Battery Installation" section under Setup for instructions.

Storage

When not in use for extended periods, remove the battery to prevent leakage. Store the meter in its carrying case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

  • No Display / Weak Display: Check the battery. Replace if necessary.
  • Inaccurate Readings:
    • Ensure the correct function and range are selected.
    • Verify test lead connections.
    • For AC current, ensure only one conductor is clamped.
    • Replace the battery if low.
  • No Continuity Beep: Ensure the circuit is de-energized and the test leads are making good contact. Check if the component has high resistance.
