Setup and Installation

The Zoeller Aquanot 508 ProPak98 system comes preassembled for ease of installation. It is designed to be installed in a clear water sump pit.

  1. Sump Pit Preparation: Ensure your sump pit is clean and free of debris. The pit must be large enough to accommodate the preassembled unit and allow for proper float switch operation.
  2. Positioning the System: Carefully lower the preassembled pump system into the sump pit. Ensure it sits level and the float switch has unrestricted movement.
  3. Discharge Pipe Connection: Connect the system's 1-1/2" PVC discharge pipe to your existing discharge line. Use appropriate PVC cement and primer for a watertight seal. The system includes integrated check valves for both AC and DC pumps.
  4. Battery Installation:
    • Obtain a compatible 12-volt battery (Group size 27, 29, or 31). The battery is not included.
    • Place the battery inside the provided non-corrodible polyethylene battery case. Maximum battery dimensions: 13" L x 7.5" W x 9.5" H (33 cm L x 19 cm W x 24 cm H).
    • Connect the battery cables from the control box to the battery terminals, ensuring correct polarity (red to positive, black to negative).
  5. Electrical Connections:
    • Plug the AC pump power cord into a grounded 120V AC outlet.
    • Plug the control box power cord into a separate grounded 120V AC outlet.
    • The control box will begin charging the battery and performing system diagnostics.
  6. Auxiliary Alarm Contact (Optional): If desired, connect the auxiliary alarm contacts on the control box to a home security alarm system or auto-dialer for remote notification. Refer to your security system's manual for connection details.
  7. Test Operation: Fill the sump pit with water to activate the primary AC pump. Verify that water is discharged correctly. Then, simulate a power outage (by unplugging the AC pump) to test the battery backup system. The DC pump should activate, and the alarm should sound.

Operating Instructions

The Aquanot 508 ProPak98 system operates automatically to protect your basement from flooding.

Primary AC Pump Operation

The main AC pump will activate when the water level in the sump pit rises and lifts its float switch. It will pump water out until the float switch drops to its off position.

Battery Back-Up DC Pump Operation

In the event of a power outage or primary pump failure, the 12-volt DC backup pump will automatically engage when its dedicated float switch is activated by rising water. The control box will sound an alarm and illuminate indicators to alert you to the backup system's operation.

Control Box and LCD Screen

The control box features a solid-state, automatic 10 amp battery recharger system. The LCD screen continuously displays the battery voltage and other system information. It also provides alarms, light indicators, and warning systems for various operational states, including battery burn-out and overcharge protection.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliability of your sump pump system.

  • Monthly Test: Manually lift the float switch for both the AC and DC pumps to ensure they activate and pump water. Verify that the backup alarm sounds during DC pump operation.
  • Battery Check: Periodically check the battery terminals for corrosion. Clean if necessary. Ensure the battery fluid levels (if applicable for wet cell batteries) are maintained. The LCD screen will display battery voltage.
  • Sump Pit Cleaning: Annually, or more frequently if needed, clean the sump pit of any sediment, dirt, or debris that could interfere with pump or float switch operation.
  • Float Switch Inspection: Ensure both float switches move freely and are not obstructed by wires, pipes, or debris.
  • Check Valves: Inspect check valves for proper function and ensure they are not leaking.

Troubleshooting

If your system is not operating as expected, consider the following common issues:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Pump does not turn on.No power; tripped breaker; float switch obstructed; pump clogged.Check power supply and breaker. Clear float switch. Inspect pump intake for clogs.
Pump runs continuously.Float switch stuck in "on" position; check valve faulty; discharge pipe blockage.Clear float switch. Inspect/replace check valve. Clear discharge pipe.
Backup pump alarm sounds.Power outage; primary pump failure; low battery voltage.Check AC power. Inspect primary pump. Check battery connections and charge level.
Water not discharging.Discharge pipe blockage; pump impeller clogged; faulty pump.Clear discharge pipe. Inspect and clean pump impeller. Contact support if pump is faulty.

If problems persist, contact Zoeller customer support or a qualified technician.
