Setup and First Use

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the frying pan from its packaging. Inspect for any damage.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the pan thoroughly with warm water and a mild dish soap. Rinse well and dry completely to prevent water spots.
  3. Pre-heating: For optimal cooking results, especially when searing, pre-heat the pan over medium heat for 2-3 minutes before adding oil or food. This allows the stainless steel to expand evenly and helps prevent sticking.

Operating Instructions

The WMF Profi Frying Pan is designed for versatile cooking across various heat sources. Follow these guidelines for best performance:

  • Compatible Heat Sources: This pan features a TransTherm® universal base, making it suitable for all types of hobs, including induction, gas, electric, and ceramic.
  • Heat Management: Stainless steel heats efficiently. Use medium to medium-high heat for most cooking tasks. High heat should be used sparingly and only for short periods to avoid overheating and potential food sticking.
  • Using Oil: Always add a small amount of cooking oil or fat to the pre-heated pan before adding food. This creates a barrier that helps prevent food from sticking.
  • Food Release: For best results, allow food to naturally release from the pan. When searing, food will initially stick, but as it browns and a crust forms, it will release easily. Do not force it.

Care and Maintenance

  • Cleaning: The pan is dishwasher safe. However, hand washing with warm soapy water and a soft sponge is recommended to maintain its shine and prolong its lifespan.
  • Stubborn Food Residue: For burnt-on food, fill the pan with water and a small amount of dish soap, bring to a boil, and let it simmer for a few minutes. This will loosen the residue, making it easier to clean. Alternatively, a paste of baking soda and water can be used for scrubbing.
  • Discoloration: High heat can sometimes cause blue or rainbow-like discoloration on stainless steel. This is harmless and can often be removed by cleaning with a solution of vinegar or lemon juice.
  • Storage: Store the pan in a dry place. If stacking with other cookware, place a cloth or paper towel between pans to prevent scratches.

Troubleshooting

Food Sticking to the Pan:

This is a common issue with stainless steel if not used correctly. Ensure the pan is properly pre-heated before adding oil and food. The "mercury ball" test (a drop of water beads and dances) indicates readiness. Also, ensure sufficient oil is used and allow food to form a crust before attempting to move it.

Discoloration (Blue/Rainbow Stains):

This is typically caused by overheating or mineral deposits from water. It is harmless. To remove, clean the pan with a mixture of white vinegar and water, or a specialized stainless steel cleaner. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

Burnt-on Food Residue:

Soak the pan in hot soapy water for an hour or more. For stubborn spots, boil water with a few tablespoons of baking soda in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then scrape gently with a wooden or silicone utensil.
