Pneumatex Statico SD Diaphragm Pressure Expansion Vessel User Manual
Model: 7101002 | Brand: IMI Pneumatex
Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient installation, operation, and maintenance of your Pneumatex Statico SD Diaphragm Pressure Expansion Vessel. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and keep it for future reference.
Product Overview
The Pneumatex Statico SD is a high-quality diaphragm pressure expansion vessel designed for use in closed heating, solar, and cooling systems. It compensates for volume changes in the system water due to temperature fluctuations, maintaining stable pressure and protecting system components.

Figure 1: Front view of the Pneumatex Statico SD Diaphragm Pressure Expansion Vessel. The vessel is blue, circular, and features a central valve connection point on the top surface and a threaded connection at the bottom for system integration. A "Quality Checked" sticker is visible on the top surface.
Safety Instructions
Always adhere to local regulations and safety standards during installation and operation. Failure to do so may result in injury or damage to the equipment.
- Ensure the system is depressurized and cooled before any installation or maintenance work.
- Only qualified personnel should perform installation and maintenance.
- Do not exceed the maximum operating pressure specified for the vessel.
- Protect the vessel from freezing temperatures.
Setup and Installation
The Statico SD vessel should be installed in a vertical position, with the system connection pointing downwards. Ensure adequate space for maintenance.
- Mounting: Securely mount the vessel using appropriate brackets or stands, ensuring it is level and stable.
- System Connection: Connect the vessel to the system's return line, preferably at the suction side of the circulation pump, using a suitable isolation valve.
- Pre-charge Pressure: Check and adjust the pre-charge pressure of the vessel to match the static height of the system plus a minimum of 0.2 bar. Use a pressure gauge and a suitable pump for adjustment via the valve on top of the vessel.
- Leak Check: After connection, slowly fill the system and check all connections for leaks.
Operating Principles
The Statico SD vessel contains a flexible diaphragm that separates the system water from a nitrogen gas cushion. As system water temperature increases, its volume expands, pushing against the diaphragm and compressing the gas cushion. When the temperature decreases, the gas cushion expands, pushing water back into the system, thus maintaining stable pressure.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of the expansion vessel.
- Annual Pre-charge Check: At least once a year, check the pre-charge pressure of the vessel. Depressurize the system before checking. If the pressure is too low, re-inflate to the required level.
- Visual Inspection: Periodically inspect the vessel for any signs of corrosion, damage, or leaks.
- System Water Quality: Ensure the system water quality meets the manufacturer's recommendations to prevent internal corrosion or scaling.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| System pressure fluctuates widely | Low pre-charge pressure in vessel | Check and adjust pre-charge pressure (see Maintenance section). |
| Water coming from air valve | Diaphragm failure | Vessel needs replacement. Contact a qualified technician. |
| Constant pressure relief valve activation | Vessel too small or incorrect pre-charge | Verify vessel sizing for system volume. Check and adjust pre-charge pressure. |
