2. Setup

2.1 Connecting the Hose to the Vacuum

  1. Ensure the vacuum cleaner is unplugged from the power outlet before beginning installation.
  2. Locate the hose inlet on your Miele vacuum cleaner. This is typically found on the front or top of the canister.
  3. Align the connection end of the SES121 electric hose with the vacuum's inlet. The hose connection is designed to fit securely in only one orientation.
  4. Push the hose firmly into the inlet until it clicks into place. A secure connection is essential for proper suction and electrical contact.
  5. Gently pull on the hose to confirm it is locked and cannot be easily dislodged.

2.2 Attaching Cleaning Accessories

  1. To attach a floorhead or other cleaning accessory, align the accessory's connection point with the end of the hose handle.
  2. Push the accessory onto the hose handle until it locks securely. For electric powerheads, ensure the electrical contacts align and connect properly.
  3. To remove an accessory, press the release button (if present) on the hose handle and pull the accessory off.

3. Operation

3.1 Using the On/Off Switch

The SES121 electric hose features an integrated on/off switch on its handle. This switch controls the power to the vacuum cleaner and any connected electric powerheads.

  • To turn the vacuum cleaner and powerhead on, press the 'On' position of the switch.
  • To turn the vacuum cleaner and powerhead off, press the 'Off' position of the switch.

3.2 General Usage Guidelines

  • Always ensure the hose is securely connected to both the vacuum and the cleaning accessory before operation.
  • Avoid kinking or sharply bending the hose during use or storage, as this can damage the internal wiring or hose material.
  • Do not vacuum liquids or wet materials, as this can damage the vacuum cleaner and pose an electrical hazard.
  • If the hose becomes obstructed, turn off and unplug the vacuum before attempting to clear the blockage.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning the Hose

  • Periodically inspect the hose for any signs of damage, such as cracks, tears, or punctures.
  • Wipe the exterior of the hose with a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ensure the electrical contacts at both ends of the hose are clean and free from debris to maintain a reliable connection.

4.2 Storage

Store the hose in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Coil the hose loosely to prevent kinking or stress on the material and internal wiring.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 No Power to Power Brush

  • Check connections: Ensure the hose is fully inserted into the vacuum cleaner and the power brush is securely attached to the hose handle.
  • Verify power: Confirm the vacuum cleaner is plugged into a working electrical outlet and the on/off switch on the hose handle is in the 'On' position.
  • Inspect for damage: Examine the hose for any visible damage, such as cuts or severe kinks, which could indicate a broken internal wire.
  • Test with another accessory: If possible, try connecting a different electric powerhead (if you have one) to determine if the issue is with the hose or the powerhead itself.

5.2 Reduced Suction

  • Check for blockages: Turn off and unplug the vacuum. Carefully inspect the hose for any obstructions.
  • Verify seals: Ensure all connections (hose to vacuum, accessory to hose) are airtight.
  • Check vacuum bag/filter: A full dustbag or clogged filter in the vacuum cleaner can also cause reduced suction.

5.3 Hose Obstructions

If an object becomes lodged in the hose:

  1. Immediately turn off and unplug the vacuum cleaner.
  2. Disconnect the hose from both the vacuum and any attached accessories.
  3. Attempt to dislodge the obstruction by carefully pushing a blunt, flexible object (like a broom handle) through the hose from both ends.
  4. Never use sharp objects that could puncture or damage the hose.
