This key fob replacement is compatible with specific Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, and Oldsmobile models from 1998 to 2002. Ensure your vehicle is listed below before proceeding with programming.

  • Cadillac: Escalade
  • Chevrolet: Avalanche, Astro, Blazer, Suburban, Silverado, Tahoe, S10 Pickup
  • GMC: Jimmy, Safari, Sierra, Sonoma, Yukon
  • Oldsmobile: Bravada

OEM Part Numbers: 15042968, 15732803, KOBUT1BT, K0BUT1BT.
FCC ID: KOBLEAR1XT, KOBUT1BT.

3. Key Fob Features

The KeylessOption replacement remote features three distinct buttons for vehicle control:

  • Lock Button: Secures all vehicle doors.
  • Unlock Button: Unlocks all vehicle doors.
  • Panic Button (Red Horn Icon): Activates the vehicle's alarm system for emergency situations.

4. Programming Instructions (Self-Programming)

This key fob is designed for self-programming. Follow these steps carefully to program your new remote(s) to your vehicle. It is essential to program all existing and new remotes at the same time, as programming a new remote may erase previously programmed ones.

  1. Preparation: Ensure all vehicle doors are closed. Only have the remote you are currently programming inside the vehicle. Keep other remotes outside the vehicle until their turn.
  2. Enter Programming Mode:
    • Sit in the driver's seat.
    • Hold down the UNLOCK button on the driver's side door panel.
    • While holding the UNLOCK button, insert your ignition key and turn it to the ON position, then immediately to the OFF position, and then back to the ON position. Perform this ON-OFF-ON cycle slowly and deliberately.
    • Release the UNLOCK button on the door panel.
    • The vehicle's door locks should cycle (lock then unlock) to indicate it has entered programming mode. Important Note: For some vehicles, particularly certain S-10 models, the locks may not audibly cycle. If no audible cycle occurs, listen for a faint whining noise or proceed to the next step, as the vehicle may still be in programming mode.
  3. Program Remote(s):
    • Immediately after the locks cycle (or after releasing the UNLOCK button if no cycle), completely remove the key from the ignition.
    • On the new key fob, simultaneously press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons for approximately 15-20 seconds.
    • The vehicle's door locks should cycle again (lock then unlock) to confirm successful programming of that remote.
    • If you have additional remotes (new or existing) to program, bring the next remote into the vehicle and repeat the previous step (pressing and holding LOCK and UNLOCK buttons) for each remote. Do this consecutively for all remotes you wish to use, without exiting programming mode.
  4. Exit Programming Mode:
    • Once all desired remotes are programmed, turn the ignition key to the ON position (or open any vehicle door) to exit programming mode.
    • Test all programmed remotes to ensure full functionality.

Troubleshooting Tips for Programming:

  • Timing is Crucial: Perform each step, especially the key turns, slowly and deliberately, with a brief pause between actions.
  • Key Removal: Ensure the key is fully removed from the ignition before pressing buttons on the remote.
  • All Remotes at Once: If you have multiple remotes, program them all in one continuous session. Programming a new remote after exiting programming mode will likely erase previously programmed ones.
  • No Audible Lock Cycle: If your vehicle's locks do not cycle after entering programming mode, proceed with holding the remote buttons anyway, as some models enter silently.

5. Operating Instructions

Once programmed, your KeylessOption key fob operates as follows:

  • Lock: Press the LOCK button once to lock all vehicle doors.
  • Unlock: Press the UN LOCK button once to unlock all vehicle doors.
  • Panic: Press the red horn icon button to activate the vehicle's alarm. Press it again or insert the key into the ignition to deactivate.

6. Maintenance

Battery Replacement

The key fob is powered by a small coin cell battery. If the remote's range decreases significantly or it stops responding, the battery may need replacement.

  1. Carefully pry open the key fob casing using a small flat-head screwdriver or a coin at the seam.
  2. Note the orientation of the existing battery.
  3. Remove the old battery and insert a new one of the same type (typically CR2032), ensuring correct polarity.
  4. Snap the two halves of the key fob casing back together until it is securely closed.

General Care

  • Avoid exposing the key fob to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight for extended periods, or moisture.
  • Do not drop the key fob or subject it to strong impacts.
  • Clean the exterior with a soft, dry cloth if necessary.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Remote not programming:
    • Ensure all doors are closed during the programming sequence.
    • Verify your vehicle's compatibility with the key fob model.
    • Double-check the programming steps, especially the timing of the key turns and button presses. Some vehicles require a slower, more deliberate pace.
    • Ensure the key is completely removed from the ignition before holding the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote.
    • If the locks do not audibly cycle, proceed to hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote after releasing the door panel UNLOCK button, as some vehicles may enter programming mode silently.
    • Try replacing the battery in the new key fob, even if new.
  • One remote works, but another doesn't after programming:
    • All remotes (new and existing) must be programmed during the same programming session. If you program one, then exit, and then try to program another, the first one may be erased. Re-enter programming mode and program all desired remotes consecutively.
  • Remote range is poor:
    • Replace the battery in the key fob.
    • Ensure there are no large metallic objects or strong radio interference sources between the remote and the vehicle.
