3. Setup Guide

3.1 Assembling the Microphone

  1. Carefully unbox all components and inspect them for any damage.
  2. Attach the shock mount to a compatible microphone stand (stand not included). Ensure the mount is securely fastened. The shock mount features a standard screw thread for universal compatibility.
  3. Gently insert the Excelvan BM-700 microphone into the shock mount. The microphone should fit snugly within the elastic bands of the mount, which are designed to absorb vibrations and reduce handling noise.
  4. Place the anti-wind foam cap over the microphone's grille. This helps to reduce plosive sounds and wind noise during recording.

3.2 Connecting the Microphone

The Excelvan BM-700 is a condenser microphone and requires 48V phantom power to operate. It connects via an XLR cable.

  • Connect the XLR end of the provided audio cable to the microphone's XLR port at the base.
  • Connect the 3.5mm end of the audio cable to your audio interface, mixer, or a compatible device that provides 48V phantom power.
  • Important Note: If connecting to a computer directly without a dedicated audio interface with phantom power, you will need an external 48V phantom power supply unit. The included USB to 3.5mm headset jack adapter is for basic connectivity but does not provide phantom power. For optimal performance and proper functionality, a phantom power source is essential.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Microphone Orientation and Pickup Pattern

The BM-700 features a cardioid (uni-directional) pickup pattern, meaning it primarily captures sound from the front of the microphone and rejects sound from the sides and rear. This helps to isolate the desired sound source and minimize background noise.

  • Ensure the front of the microphone (the side with the Excelvan logo and model number) is facing the sound source you wish to record.
  • Maintain an appropriate distance from the sound source to avoid distortion (too close) or weak signal (too far). Experiment to find the optimal distance for your specific application.

5. Care and Maintenance

  • Always disconnect the microphone from its power source and audio interface when not in use.
  • Store the microphone in a dry, dust-free environment, preferably in its original packaging or a dedicated microphone case.
  • Avoid exposing the microphone to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Clean the microphone's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the finish or internal components.
  • Handle the microphone and its components with care to prevent drops or impacts, which can affect performance.
