Setup

  1. Unfold the Game Board: Place the game board on a flat surface.
  2. Separate Cards: Separate the Trainer Battle cards and Professor Oak cards. Shuffle each deck individually and place them face down on their designated spaces on the game board.
  3. Banker Selection: Each player rolls one die. The player with the highest roll becomes the Banker. The Banker is responsible for managing the bank's money, Property Deed cards, Poke Marts, and Pokemon Centers. The Banker may also play as a player, but must keep their personal funds separate from the bank's.
  4. Initial Money Distribution: The Banker distributes the starting money to each player. Each player receives:
    • Two 500 Pokedollar bills
    • Two 100 Pokedollar bills
    • Two 50 Pokedollar bills
    • Six 20 Pokedollar bills
    • Five 10 Pokedollar bills
    • Five 5 Pokedollar bills
    • Five 1 Pokedollar bills
  5. Choose Tokens: Each player selects one of the 6 metal tokens (Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Eevee, Jigglypuff) to represent them during the game. Place all tokens on the "GO" space.
  6. Place Poke Marts and Pokemon Centers: Keep the Poke Marts and Pokemon Centers near the board, ready for purchase.

Operating Instructions (Gameplay)

The game is played by 2 to 6 players. The goal is to be the last player remaining with money, having driven all other players into bankruptcy.

Starting the Game

The player to the left of the Banker goes first. Play proceeds clockwise.

Player's Turn

  1. Roll the Dice: Roll both dice and move your token clockwise around the board the number of spaces indicated.
  2. Landing on a Space: The action you take depends on the space you land on:
    • Unowned Property (Pokemon): You may buy the property from the Bank for the price printed on that space. If you choose not to buy it, the Banker immediately auctions it to the highest bidder.
    • Owned Property: If another player owns the property, you must pay them rent according to the Property Deed card. Rent increases if the property is part of a color set or has Poke Marts/Pokemon Centers.
    • Trainer Battle or Professor Oak: Draw the top card from the respective deck and follow its instructions. Return the card to the bottom of the deck after use.
    • Go: Passing or landing on "GO" earns you 200 Pokedollars from the Bank.
    • Just Visiting: No action required.
    • Free Parking: No action required.
    • Go to Jail: Move your token directly to the "In Jail" space. Your turn ends. You do not collect 200 Pokedollars for passing "GO".
    • Taxes: Pay the specified amount to the Bank.
  3. Doubles: If you roll doubles, take your turn as usual, then roll the dice again for another turn. If you roll doubles three times in a row, you immediately "Go to Jail".

Buying and Building

  • Property Sets: When you own all properties of a color group, you have a "monopoly" and can build Poke Marts and Pokemon Centers on those properties.
  • Building: You can buy Poke Marts and Pokemon Centers from the Bank during your turn. You must build evenly across a color set. For example, you cannot place a second Poke Mart on a property until all properties in that set have one.
  • Selling: Properties, Poke Marts, and Pokemon Centers can be sold back to the Bank or traded with other players.

Bankruptcy

If you owe more money than you can pay, you are bankrupt and out of the game. All your assets (properties, Poke Marts, Pokemon Centers) are turned over to the player you owe, or to the Bank if you owe the Bank.

Winning the Game

The last player remaining in the game, after all others have gone bankrupt, is the winner.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity of your MONOPOLY: Pokemon Kanto Edition game, follow these guidelines:

  • Storage: Store all game components in their original box in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Cleaning: Wipe the game board and plastic components with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or excessive moisture.
  • Handling: Handle cards and money carefully to prevent bending, tearing, or creasing.
