Introduction
The Siemens Uni-PAK Metering System, model WP4212, is designed for multiple position metering projects, offering flexibility and ease of installation. This outdoor/indoor rated device is configured for 2-position setups, featuring a pull section with main lugs or stud terminations and 4-jaw meter sockets with provisions for tenant main circuit breakers. It operates on 120/240V AC 1-phase, 3-wire systems and is available with 200 ampere meter sockets per position. This system is suitable for various small apartment and commercial building applications.
The Unit-PAK devices are designed to accept overhead or underground service terminations and can be wall-hung for surface or semi-flush mounting. They are factory pre-bussed in a compact enclosure for efficient handling and installation, maximizing wall-space efficiency.

Key Installation Features:
- Mounting: Designed for wall-hung surface or semi-flush mounting. A mounting rail is included for wall hanging.
- Service Entry: Accepts overhead or underground service terminations. Uses HV type hubs on the top end wall.
- Wiring: Features Siemens' exclusive 200 ampere/position QS breaker for quicker wiring.
- Back Exit: Includes a removable knock-out plate for back exit wiring.
- Meter Sockets: Front accessible 4-jaw sockets with individual ring type meter covers. A fifth jaw accessory kit is available for use on 120/208YV AC 1-phase, 3-wire network systems, field installable at 6 or 9 o'clock.
- Breaker Compatibility:
- Tenant main breakers are not included.
- For 125 Amp or less tenant mains, use Siemens Type QP or QPH breakers.
- For 150-225 Amp tenant mains, use Siemens breaker Types QS, QSH, QSHH, HQS, or HQSH.
- Security: All unmetered bus is barbered and sealable to prevent unauthorized access. Lever Bypass models are available.
Operating Instructions
This metering system is designed for continuous operation once properly installed and connected to the electrical grid. Operation typically involves the utility company reading the meters and the tenant main circuit breakers managing power distribution to individual units.
- Power Activation: After installation by a qualified electrician, the utility company will connect and activate the service.
- Tenant Breakers: Tenant main circuit breakers (purchased separately) control power to individual tenant units. Familiarize yourself with the location and operation of these breakers.
- Service Disconnects: Each meter position includes a service disconnect. These are for use by authorized personnel only to isolate power to a specific meter socket.
Maintenance
The Siemens WP4212 Uni-PAK Metering System requires minimal maintenance. Regular inspections by qualified personnel are recommended to ensure continued safe and efficient operation.
- Periodic Inspection: Annually, or as required by local codes, have a qualified electrician inspect the unit for any signs of wear, corrosion, or loose connections.
- Cleaning: Keep the exterior of the enclosure clean and free from debris. Use a dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Enclosure Integrity: Ensure all covers and seals remain intact to maintain the outdoor/indoor rating and prevent unauthorized access. The galvanized steel with electrodeposited paint provides long-lasting protection.
Troubleshooting
In case of operational issues, always contact a qualified electrician or the utility company. Do not attempt to repair or modify the metering system yourself.
- No Power to Unit: Verify that the main service disconnect is in the ON position and that the utility service is active. Contact your utility provider if the issue persists.
- No Power to Tenant Unit: Check the tenant main circuit breaker for the affected unit. If tripped, reset it. If it trips repeatedly, there may be an overload or fault in the tenant's wiring, requiring professional inspection.
- Visible Damage: If any part of the metering system appears damaged, immediately contact a qualified electrician and the utility company. Do not touch damaged components.
