2. Safety Information
This device is a Class 2 Laser Product. Observe the following safety precautions:
- CAUTION: Laser radiation is emitted from this aperture. Do not stare into the laser beam.

- Avoid direct eye exposure to the laser beam.
- Do not disassemble or modify the device. Unauthorized repairs can result in laser radiation exposure.

4. Setup
Battery Installation
The STANLEY STHT77801-A requires two 1.5V AAA batteries for operation.
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
- Slide the cover open.
- Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
The device is now ready for use. The battery life is approximately 8000 single measurements.
5. Operating Instructions
Basic Measurement
- Press the Turn On / Measuring button to power on the device. The laser will activate.
- Aim the laser beam at the target point.
- Press the Turn On / Measuring button again to take a measurement. The distance will be displayed on the screen.
- For continuous measurement, press and hold the Turn On / Measuring button. The display will update in real-time as you move the device.

Changing Measurement Units
Press the Unit / Reference Point button to cycle through available measurement units: meters (m), inches (in), and feet (ft).
Area and Volume Measurement
The device can calculate area and volume automatically.
- Press the Function / Storage button until the desired mode (Area or Volume) icon appears on the display.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to take the required measurements (e.g., length, width for area; length, width, height for volume).
- The calculated area or volume will be displayed.
Pythagorean Proposition Measurement
Use this mode to indirectly measure heights or distances using the Pythagorean theorem.
- Press the Function / Storage button until the Pythagorean mode icon appears.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to take the necessary measurements (e.g., hypotenuse and one leg).
- The device will calculate the unknown side.
Add and Subtract Measurements
To add or subtract measurements:
- Take the first measurement.
- Press the Addition & Subtraction button (once for addition, twice for subtraction).
- Take the second measurement.
- The result of the addition or subtraction will be displayed.
Min/Max Value Tracking
During continuous measurement, the device automatically tracks and displays the minimum and maximum measured values.
Automatic Shutdown
To conserve battery life, the laser will automatically cut off after 30 seconds of inactivity, and the device will shut down completely after 180 seconds of inactivity.
6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your STANLEY Laser Distance Meter.
- Storage: Do not store the meter in high temperature or strong humidity environments for extended periods. If not used frequently, remove the batteries and store the device in its portable bag in a cool, dry place.
- Cleaning: Keep the device surface clean. Use a wet soft cloth to wipe off dust. Avoid using erosive liquids for cleaning, as they can damage the device.
- Optical Components: The laser output window and its focus lens should be maintained according to standard optical device cleaning procedures. Use a lens cleaning cloth or solution designed for optics.

If you encounter issues with your laser distance meter, consider the following general troubleshooting steps:
- Device not turning on: Check if the batteries are correctly inserted and have sufficient charge. Replace batteries if necessary.
- Inaccurate measurements: Ensure the laser lens is clean. Verify the reference point setting. Ensure the target surface is suitable for laser reflection.
- Display issues: If the display is dim or flickering, replace the batteries.
