5. Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your coffee maker.
Daily Cleaning:
- Always unplug the coffee maker before cleaning and allow it to cool completely.
- Wash the carafe and filter basket in warm, soapy water after each use. Rinse thoroughly and dry. These parts may also be top-rack dishwasher safe (check product manual for specific dishwasher compatibility).
- Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker, including the heating plate, with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Do not immerse the coffee maker's main body, cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.
Descaling (Mineral Deposit Removal):
Mineral deposits (calcium) can build up in your coffee maker over time, affecting performance and coffee taste. Descale regularly, depending on water hardness and frequency of use (e.g., every 2-3 months).
- Prepare a descaling solution: Mix 2-4 tablespoons of white vinegar with water, or use a commercial descaling agent according to its instructions. Fill the water reservoir with this solution.
- Place an empty paper filter in the filter basket and the empty carafe on the heating plate.
- Turn the coffee maker ON and allow half of the solution to brew through.
- Turn the coffee maker OFF and let it stand for at least 15 minutes to allow the solution to work.
- Turn the coffee maker ON again and brew the remaining solution.
- Discard the solution from the carafe.
- Rinse Cycle: Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water and run at least two full brewing cycles with only water to rinse out any remaining descaling solution. Discard water after each cycle.
