Setup: Setting Your Combination
Your Yale combination padlock is factory preset to 0-0-0. Follow these steps to set your personal combination:
- Ensure the padlock is open. If it is closed, dial 0-0-0 and pull up the shackle.
- Rotate the shackle 90 degrees (a quarter turn) counter-clockwise from its open position.
- Press the shackle down firmly into the padlock body, ensuring it is fully depressed.
- While holding the shackle down, set your desired 3-digit combination by rotating the dials. Choose a memorable combination.
- Once your new combination is set, release the shackle.
- Rotate the shackle back to its original open position (another 90 degrees clockwise).
- Close the shackle and scramble the dials to lock the padlock. Test your new combination to ensure it opens correctly.
Important: Do not release the shackle while setting the combination, as this may cause the combination to be set incorrectly. Remember your combination, as there is no master key or override function.
Operating the Padlock
Opening the Padlock
- Align the three numerical dials to your personal 3-digit combination.
- Pull the shackle upwards to release it from the padlock body. The padlock is now open.
Closing and Securing the Padlock
- With the shackle in the open position, insert it back into the padlock body.
- Press the shackle down until it clicks into place.
- Scramble the numerical dials to a random sequence. The padlock is now securely locked.
Maintenance
The Yale YP2/23/128/1G padlock requires minimal maintenance to ensure long-lasting performance.
- Cleaning: Wipe the padlock body and shackle with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and dirt. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish or internal mechanisms.
- Lubrication: If the shackle movement becomes stiff over time, a small amount of graphite powder or a silicone-based lubricant can be applied to the shackle entry points. Do not use oil-based lubricants, as they can attract dirt.
- Storage: Store the padlock in a dry environment when not in use to prevent corrosion.
Troubleshooting
- Padlock will not open:
- Ensure the correct 3-digit combination is precisely aligned on the dials.
- Verify that the shackle was fully depressed when the combination was initially set. If not, the combination may be different than intended.
- If you have forgotten your combination, there is no factory reset or master key for this type of padlock. You may need to try common combinations or consider replacing the padlock.
- Shackle is stiff or difficult to operate:
- Apply a small amount of graphite powder or silicone lubricant to the shackle entry points and work the shackle several times to distribute the lubricant.
- Check for any visible debris obstructing the shackle mechanism.
