1. Important Safeguards
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:
- Read all instructions.
- Do not immerse the motor base in water or other liquids.
- Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
- Unplug from outlet when not in use, before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning.
- Avoid contact with moving parts.
- Blades are sharp. Handle carefully.
- Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been dropped or damaged in any manner.
- The use of attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury.
- Do not use outdoors.
- Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter or touch hot surfaces.
- Keep hands and utensils away from moving blades while processing food to prevent the risk of severe injury to persons or damage to the food processor. A scraper may be used but only when the food processor is not running.
- To reduce the risk of injury, never place cutting blade or discs on base without first putting the bowl properly in place.
- Be certain lid is securely locked in place before operating appliance.
- Do not attempt to defeat the lid interlock mechanism.
2. Parts and Features
Familiarize yourself with the components of your Hamilton Beach Food Processor:
- Motor Base: Houses the motor and control buttons.
- Processing Bowl: 12-cup capacity for holding ingredients.
- Lid with Feed Chute: Secures the bowl and allows adding ingredients during operation.
- Food Pusher: Used to guide food through the feed chute.
- S-Blade: For chopping, mixing, and pureeing.
- Reversible Slice/Shred Disc: For slicing and shredding.
- Disc Stem: Attaches the slice/shred disc to the motor shaft.
- Control Panel: Buttons for OFF, SLICE/SHRED, PUREE/MIX, and PULSE/CHOP.
3. Setup and Assembly
Before first use, wash all parts except the motor base in hot, soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly. The processing bowl, lid, S-blade, and reversible disc are top-rack dishwasher safe.
Assembling the Food Processor:
- Place the motor base on a clean, dry, level surface.
- Place the processing bowl onto the motor base. The handle should align with the front of the base.
- For Chopping, Mixing, or Pureeing: Carefully place the S-blade onto the center post in the bowl. Ensure it sits securely.
- For Slicing or Shredding: Place the disc stem onto the center post in the bowl. Then, place the reversible slice/shred disc onto the disc stem with the desired side (slice or shred) facing up.
- Place the lid onto the processing bowl. Align the lid's tab with the slot on the bowl handle and snap it down until it clicks into place. The food processor will not operate unless the lid is correctly locked.

4. Operating Instructions
Ensure the food processor is properly assembled and the lid is locked before plugging it into an electrical outlet.
Using the S-Blade (Chop, Mix, Puree):
- With the S-blade installed, add ingredients to the processing bowl. Do not overfill.
- Secure the lid.
- Press the PULSE/CHOP button for short bursts to chop ingredients. Hold for continuous chopping.
- Press the PUREE/MIX button for continuous operation to mix or puree ingredients until desired consistency is reached.
- When finished, press the OFF button and unplug the appliance.
Using the Reversible Slice/Shred Disc:
- With the slice/shred disc installed (desired side up), secure the lid.
- Place food into the wide feed chute. For smaller items, use the smaller inner chute.
- Press the SLICE/SHRED button for continuous operation.
- Use the food pusher to guide ingredients through the feed chute. Apply even, gentle pressure. Do not force food.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning
Proper cleaning ensures the longevity and performance of your food processor.
Cleaning Instructions:
- Always unplug the appliance before cleaning.
- Remove the lid, processing bowl, S-blade, and disc/stem.
- All removable parts (bowl, lid, S-blade, slice/shred disc, food pusher) are top-rack dishwasher safe. Alternatively, wash them in hot, soapy water, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
- Caution: Blades are sharp. Handle with extreme care during washing.
- Wipe the motor base with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the motor base in water or any other liquid.
- For stubborn stains on the bowl or lid, a non-abrasive cleaner can be used.
6. Troubleshooting
If your food processor is not operating as expected, refer to these common issues:
- Appliance does not turn on:
- Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working electrical outlet.
- Verify that the processing bowl and lid are correctly assembled and locked into place. The safety interlock prevents operation if not properly secured.
- Motor runs but food is not processing:
- Check that the S-blade or slice/shred disc is properly installed on the center post.
- Ensure the food pusher is being used to guide food through the feed chute when slicing or shredding.
- Food is unevenly processed:
- For chopping, use the PULSE function for better control and to achieve a more even consistency.
- Do not overload the bowl. Process smaller batches if necessary.
- Cut larger ingredients into smaller, uniform pieces before processing.
- Appliance stops during operation:
- The unit may have overheated. Unplug the appliance and let it cool down for at least 30 minutes before attempting to use it again.
- Check for any obstructions that might be jamming the blade or disc.
If the problem persists after following these steps, please contact Hamilton Beach customer service.
