3. Setup and Installation
The Edelbrock 43662 Air Cleaner is designed for easy installation on carburetors with a 5-1/8 inch diameter opening.
- Preparation: Ensure the engine is turned off and cool. Remove any existing air cleaner assembly from the carburetor. Clean the carburetor's air horn surface to ensure a proper seal.
- Gasket Placement: Place the provided gasket onto the carburetor's air horn. This gasket ensures an airtight seal between the carburetor and the air cleaner base.
- Base Installation: Position the air cleaner base onto the carburetor, aligning it with the mounting studs or threaded hole.
- Filter Element Placement: Carefully place the 3-inch tall filter element onto the air cleaner base. Ensure it sits flush.
- Lid Installation: Place the color-matched breathable lid on top of the filter element.
- Secure with Nut: Use the included Edelbrock script "E" nut to secure the entire assembly. Hand-tighten the nut until snug. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the carburetor or the air cleaner components.

4. Operating Principles
The Edelbrock 43662 Air Cleaner functions by filtering incoming air before it enters the carburetor and engine. The high-flow design ensures optimal airflow for performance while the pleated filter element traps dirt and debris, protecting internal engine components from wear. The breathable lid further enhances airflow characteristics.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance of your air cleaner is crucial for optimal engine performance and longevity. The Edelbrock 43662 features a reusable filter element.
5.1. Cleaning Indication
The unique Pro-Charge strip on the filter element will change color or become visibly dirty, indicating when it is time to clean your filter. Inspect this strip periodically.

5.2. Cleaning Procedure
To clean and re-oil the filter, use the Edelbrock Pro-Charge™ Cleaning Kit #43600. Follow the instructions provided with the cleaning kit for best results. Typically, this involves:
- Remove the air cleaner assembly from the carburetor.
- Disassemble the air cleaner, separating the filter element from the base and lid.
- Apply the cleaning solution from the kit to the filter element. Allow it to soak as per kit instructions.
- Rinse the filter thoroughly with water from the clean side out until the water runs clear.
- Allow the filter to air dry completely. Do not use compressed air or heat to dry, as this can damage the filter media.
- Once dry, evenly apply the filter oil from the kit to the filter pleats. Do not over-oil.
- Reassemble the air cleaner and reinstall it on the carburetor.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues that may arise with your air cleaner.
