The orientation of the cats does not matter for gameplay, only their position on the board. The puzzle pieces (boxes) must be placed back on the game board after being moved, and they can be rotated to fit the available space. Only the boxes will fit on top of the cats.

Gameplay
The objective of Cats & Boxes is to move the four puzzle pieces (boxes) around the game board until all five cat figures are hidden inside a box. You can only move one box piece at a time. The cats themselves cannot be moved directly.
The challenges are designed with increasing difficulty, from Starter to Wizard, requiring a minimum number of moves to solve. The challenge booklet provides the solution for each puzzle, indicating the sequence of moves required to hide all the cats.

The game includes 60 challenges categorized into five difficulty levels:
- Starter: Introduces basic concepts and simpler moves.
- Junior: Slightly more complex, requiring a few more strategic moves.
- Expert: Challenges that demand careful planning and foresight.
- Master: Advanced puzzles with longer sequences of moves.
- Wizard: The most difficult challenges, requiring significant logical deduction and many moves to solve.
