1. Introduction

The Dometic MSG-150 Magic Safe Gas Detector is designed to enhance safety by reliably detecting the presence of narcotic gases and other combustible gases in vehicles such as caravans and motorhomes. Upon detection, the device triggers immediate audible and visual alarms, providing crucial early warning.

This detector is capable of identifying narcotic gases based on chloroform, butane, ethane, and trichlorethene. It operates on both 12 V and 24 V power systems and features self-cleaning sensors for consistent performance.

• Ensure the power supply matches the device's requirements (12 V or 24 V DC).
• Install the detector in a location where gas is most likely to accumulate, typically near the floor for heavier-than-air gases.
• Avoid installing near ventilation outlets, windows, or areas with high humidity or extreme temperatures.
• Do not obstruct the sensor openings.

• In case of an alarm, immediately ventilate the area and investigate the source of the gas.

3. Setup and Installation

The Dometic MSG-150 is designed for easy installation in various vehicle types. Follow these steps for optimal performance:

1. Choose a Location: Select a mounting location that is free from drafts, direct sunlight, and excessive moisture. For optimal detection of narcotic gases (which are often heavier than air), install the unit close to the floor, but not directly on it. Ensure it is accessible for visual checks and testing.
2. Mounting: Secure the detector firmly to a vertical surface using appropriate screws or adhesive pads (not included, unless specified in packaging). Ensure the sensor grille faces outwards into the room.
3. Power Connection: Connect the provided 12 V / 24 V power cable to a suitable power source in your vehicle. Ensure correct polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative). The device is designed to operate with vehicle electrical systems.
4. Initial Calibration: Upon first power-up, the device will perform an automatic self-calibration to the ambient air conditions. This process may take a few minutes. During this time, avoid introducing any gases or strong odors into the area.

4. Operating Instructions

Once installed and powered, the Dometic MSG-150 operates automatically. It continuously monitors the air for the presence of specific gases.

4.1 Indicator Lights

The device features visual indicators to communicate its status:

• Green LED: Indicates normal operation and power supply.
• Red LED: Illuminates during an alarm condition, accompanied by an audible signal.
• Yellow LED: May indicate a fault or during the self-cleaning process. Refer to the troubleshooting section if this light persists.

4.2 Alarm Conditions

When the detector senses a dangerous concentration of narcotic gases (chloroform, butane, ethane, trichlorethene), it will activate both an audible alarm and a visual red LED indicator.

Action during an alarm:

1. Do not panic.
2. Immediately open all windows and doors to ventilate the area.
3. Turn off any potential gas sources if safe to do so.
4. Evacuate the vehicle if the alarm persists or the gas source cannot be identified/secured.
5. Do not re-enter the vehicle until the alarm has ceased and the area is thoroughly ventilated.

4.3 Self-Cleaning Sensors

The MSG-150 is equipped with self-cleaning sensors, which automatically maintain optimal detection capabilities. This process occurs periodically and does not require user intervention.

The Dometic MSG-150 requires minimal maintenance due to its self-cleaning sensors. However, regular checks are recommended to ensure continued reliability.

• Cleaning: Periodically wipe the exterior of the detector with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the casing or sensor. Ensure the sensor grille remains free of dust and debris.
• Function Test: It is advisable to test the detector's alarm function periodically (e.g., monthly) using a small amount of a known, safe gas (like a butane lighter, briefly held near the sensor, ensuring proper ventilation afterwards). Observe if the audible and visual alarms activate.
• Visual Inspection: Check the power cable and connections for any signs of wear or damage.
