2. Safety Instructions

  • Read all instructions carefully before use.
  • Ensure the voltage indicated on the filter matches your local power supply.
  • Always disconnect the power supply before performing any maintenance, cleaning, or when handling the filter.
  • Do not operate the filter if the power cord or plug is damaged.
  • The filter is designed for indoor use in aquariums only. Do not use it for other purposes.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

4.4 Initial Start-up

  1. Once the filter is securely placed and fully submerged, connect the power plug to a suitable electrical outlet.
  2. The filter should start operating immediately, circulating water.
  3. Observe the filter for a few minutes to ensure proper operation and check for any unusual noises or leaks.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

To turn the filter on, plug the power cord into an electrical outlet. To turn it off, disconnect the power cord from the outlet.

5.2 Flow Rate Adjustment

The EHEIM MINIUP filter features an adjustable flow rate. A control knob, typically located on the top of the filter unit, allows you to regulate the water flow intensity. Turn the knob clockwise to increase flow and counter-clockwise to decrease flow, adjusting it to suit the needs of your aquarium inhabitants and plant life.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and efficient operation of your EHEIM MINIUP filter. Always disconnect the filter from the power supply before performing any maintenance.

6.1 Cleaning the Filter Media

The filter sponges should be cleaned regularly, typically every 2-4 weeks, depending on the aquarium's bioload. Rinse the sponges thoroughly in old aquarium water (removed during a water change) to preserve beneficial bacteria. Do not use tap water directly, as chlorine can harm these bacteria.

6.2 Cleaning the Impeller and Pump Housing

Periodically, or if you notice reduced flow, the impeller and its housing should be cleaned. Disassemble the filter unit, carefully remove the impeller, and clean any debris or mineral buildup from the impeller and the impeller chamber using a small brush. Reassemble all parts securely.

6.3 Filter Media Replacement

Filter sponges should be replaced every 3-6 months, or when they show signs of significant wear and tear, to maintain optimal filtration performance. When replacing, consider staggering the replacement of sponges to avoid removing all beneficial bacteria at once.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Water Flow / Reduced Flow:
        a. Check if the filter is plugged in and receiving power.
        b. Disconnect power and check for blockages in the intake, impeller, or outlet.
        c. Clean the impeller and impeller chamber as described in Section 6.2.
        d. Ensure filter media is not excessively clogged; clean or replace if necessary.
  • Excessive Noise:
        a. Disconnect power and check if the impeller is properly seated and free of debris.
        b. Ensure the filter is securely attached to the aquarium glass and not vibrating against other objects.
        c. Check for air trapped inside the filter; gently tilt the filter to release air bubbles.
  • Filter Not Sticking to Glass:
        a. Clean the suction cups and the aquarium glass surface where the filter is to be attached.
        b. Replace worn or hardened suction cups if necessary.
