1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the MW Mean Well RSP-150-12 Power Supply. This device is a 150W single output power supply with a built-in active Power Factor Correction (PFC) function, designed for various electronic applications requiring a stable 12V DC output.

Key Features:

  • Universal AC input / Full range (suitable for global use).
  • Built-in active PFC function for improved power efficiency.
  • Ultra low profile design (30mm height) for space-constrained applications.
  • Cooling by free air convection, eliminating the need for external fans.
  • Built-in constant current limiting circuit (applicable for RSP-75/100/150 models).
  • Remote ON/OFF control capability (applicable for RSP-75/100/150 models).
  • LED indicator for power on status.
  • Protections include Short circuit, Overload, Over voltage, and Over temperature (applicable for RSP-100/150/200 models).

2. Safety Information

Please read all safety instructions carefully before installing or operating the power supply. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or damage to the product.

  • Ensure the power supply is disconnected from the main power source before any installation or maintenance.
  • Only qualified personnel should perform installation and wiring.
  • Do not operate the power supply in environments with excessive moisture, dust, or extreme temperatures.
  • Ensure proper ventilation to prevent overheating.
  • Verify input voltage and current ratings match the power supply specifications before connection.
  • Do not open the power supply casing; there are no user-serviceable parts inside.
  • Grounding is essential for safe operation. Ensure the FG (Frame Ground) terminal is properly connected to earth ground.

3. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of the RSP-150-12 power supply:

  1. Mounting: The power supply should be mounted in a well-ventilated area. Refer to the mechanical specification diagram for mounting hole dimensions and recommended clearances.
  2. Input Wiring: Connect the AC input (L, N) and Frame Ground (FG) to the corresponding terminals on the power supply. Ensure correct polarity and secure connections.
    • L: Live AC input
    • N: Neutral AC input
    • FG: Frame Ground
  3. Output Wiring: Connect the DC output (+V, -V) to your load. Observe correct polarity to prevent damage to the connected devices.
    • +V: Positive DC output
    • -V: Negative DC output
  4. Remote ON/OFF Control (Optional): If using the remote ON/OFF function, connect the appropriate signals to the CN1 terminal. Refer to the technical diagram for pin assignments.
  5. Voltage Adjustment: The output voltage can be finely adjusted using the V.ADJ potentiometer, typically located near the output terminals. Use a small screwdriver for adjustment.
  6. Pre-Power On Check: Before applying power, double-check all wiring connections for security and correctness. Ensure no loose wires or short circuits are present.

This diagram illustrates the physical dimensions, mounting points, and terminal pin assignments for the RSP-150-12 power supply, including input, output, and remote control connections. It also shows a simplified block diagram of the internal circuitry.

4. Operation

Once installed and wired correctly, the RSP-150-12 power supply is ready for operation.

  1. Power On: Apply AC power to the input terminals. The LED indicator on the unit should illuminate, indicating that the power supply is active.
  2. Output Voltage Check: Use a multimeter to verify the output voltage at the +V and -V terminals matches the required 12V (or adjusted) level before connecting sensitive equipment.
  3. Load Connection: Connect your DC load to the output terminals. Ensure the load's current draw does not exceed the power supply's maximum output current (12.5A for 12V output).
  4. Remote Control (if used): If the remote ON/OFF function is utilized, control the power supply's output via the connected external circuit.
  5. Normal Operation: The power supply will provide stable DC power to the connected load. Monitor the LED indicator for power status.

5. Maintenance

The RSP-150-12 power supply is designed for reliable operation with minimal maintenance. However, periodic checks can help ensure its longevity.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the power supply to prevent dust accumulation, especially around ventilation openings. Use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the air convection paths are not obstructed. Maintain adequate clearance around the unit as specified in the installation guidelines.
  • Connections: Occasionally check all wiring connections for tightness and signs of corrosion. Loose connections can lead to poor performance or overheating.
  • Environmental Conditions: Ensure the operating environment remains within the specified temperature and humidity ranges.
  • No User-Serviceable Parts: Do not attempt to open or repair the power supply. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
