Fengda FE-180
Fengda FE-180/BD-180 Dual Action Gravity Airbrush Instruction Manual
Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the Fengda FE-180/BD-180 Dual Action Gravity Airbrush. Designed for precision and control, this airbrush is suitable for a wide range of applications from fine art to model painting. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the airbrush to ensure proper use, maintenance, and longevity of the product.
Product Overview
The Fengda FE-180/BD-180 is a high-precision dual-action gravity feed airbrush. It features a 0.2mm needle/nozzle system, a 9ml funnel-shaped fluid cup, and an integrated micro air control valve for precise adjustments.
- Dual-Action Trigger: Controls both air and fluid flow independently.
- 0.2mm Needle/Nozzle: Allows for fine detail work, from hairline to 1-inch patterns.
- 9ml Gravity Feed Fluid Cup: Funnel-shaped for efficient use of small amounts of liquid.
- Micro Air Control Valve: Provides precise control over air pressure at the airbrush head.
- Cut-Out Handle: Facilitates quick cleaning and rinsing.
- Liquid Control Button: Enables easy adjustment of paint flow.

Setup
Before first use, ensure all components are clean and properly assembled.
- Connect Air Hose: Attach your air hose to the air inlet at the bottom of the airbrush handle. Ensure a secure, airtight connection.
- Prepare Paint: Thin your paint to the appropriate consistency for airbrushing. The ideal consistency varies depending on the paint type and desired effect.
- Fill Fluid Cup: Carefully pour the prepared paint into the 9ml gravity feed fluid cup. Do not overfill.
- Test Spray: Before applying to your project, perform a test spray on a scrap surface to check paint consistency and airbrush function.
Operating Instructions
The Fengda FE-180/BD-180 features a dual-action trigger for precise control.
- Initiate Airflow: Press the trigger down to release air.
- Control Paint Flow: While holding the trigger down for air, pull the trigger back to release paint. The further back you pull, the more paint will be released.
- Adjust Air Pressure: Use the micro air control valve located at the head of the airbrush to fine-tune the air pressure directly at the nozzle. Turning it clockwise reduces airflow, counter-clockwise increases it.
- Adjust Paint Flow Limit: The liquid control button (often a screw at the rear of the handle) can be used to set a maximum limit for how far the trigger can be pulled back, providing consistent paint flow for repetitive tasks.
- Spray Distance: Hold the airbrush approximately 2-6 inches (5-15 cm) from your surface, adjusting as needed for desired effect.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular and thorough cleaning is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your airbrush. Clean immediately after each use, especially when changing colors or types of paint.
- Initial Flush: Empty any remaining paint from the fluid cup. Add a small amount of appropriate cleaning solution (water for acrylics, solvent for enamels/lacquers) to the cup. Spray through the airbrush until the cleaner runs clear.
- Back-Flush: Place your finger over the nozzle cap and press the trigger for air. This will force air back into the fluid cup, bubbling the cleaning solution and helping to dislodge paint residue. Repeat several times.
- Disassembly: Carefully disassemble the airbrush. Components typically include the needle cap, nozzle cap, nozzle, needle, and handle. Refer to Figure 4 for a visual guide to disassembled parts.
- Thorough Cleaning: Use a soft brush and cleaning solution to clean all disassembled parts. Pay close attention to the nozzle and needle, ensuring no paint residue remains. Use specialized cleaning tools for small orifices if necessary.
- Reassembly: Reassemble the airbrush in reverse order. Be gentle when inserting the needle to avoid bending the tip. Ensure all parts are securely tightened but do not overtighten.
- Lubrication: Apply a small amount of airbrush-specific lubricant to the needle and trigger mechanism periodically to ensure smooth operation.

Troubleshooting
Refer to the table below for common issues and their solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No paint flow | Clogged nozzle/needle, bent needle, paint too thick, air cap loose | Clean nozzle/needle, straighten/replace needle, thin paint, tighten air cap |
| Sputtering or inconsistent spray | Partial clog, loose nozzle, low air pressure, paint consistency issues | Thoroughly clean, tighten nozzle, increase air pressure, adjust paint thinning |
| Air bubbles in fluid cup | Loose nozzle, damaged nozzle, dirty nozzle/air cap | Tighten nozzle, inspect/replace nozzle, clean nozzle/air cap |
| Trigger sticking | Dried paint, lack of lubrication | Clean trigger mechanism, apply airbrush lubricant |
