Operating Instructions

Three glass carafes are positioned on the lower warming plates, two filled with regular coffee and one labeled 'DECAFFEINATED COFFEE' with an orange handle. The brewer features a top-loading water reservoir and a brewing head.

Brewing Coffee

  1. Prepare Filter Basket: Place a paper filter into the filter basket.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: Add the desired amount of fresh, medium-ground coffee into the filter. Distribute evenly.
  3. Position Carafe: Place an empty glass carafe on one of the warming plates directly below the brew head.
  4. Add Water: Open the lid of the water reservoir at the top of the brewer. Carefully pour cold, fresh water into the reservoir. Do not overfill. The brewer will automatically heat the water.
  5. Start Brewing: Close the reservoir lid. The brewing cycle will begin automatically once the water reaches the optimal temperature. Hot water will dispense over the coffee grounds.
  6. Monitor Brewing: Coffee will drip into the carafe. Once brewing is complete, the warming plate will keep the coffee hot.

Using the Warming Plates

  • The AKH-3 features three lower warming plates. Each warming plate is independently controlled.
  • Place a carafe of brewed coffee on a warming plate to keep it at serving temperature.
  • Ensure the warming plate switch (if applicable) is in the 'ON' position for the desired plate.
  • Do not leave coffee on warming plates for extended periods as it can affect flavor.

Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Newco AKH-3 coffee brewer.

Daily Cleaning

  1. Unplug: Always unplug the brewer and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Discard Grounds: Remove the filter basket and discard used coffee grounds and filter.
  3. Wash Components: Wash the filter basket and carafes with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  4. Wipe Exterior: Wipe down the exterior surfaces of the brewer with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  5. Clean Warming Plates: Wipe warming plates with a damp cloth. Remove any spilled coffee immediately to prevent staining.

Descaling (Monthly or as needed)

Mineral deposits from water can build up over time, affecting brewing performance. Descale your brewer regularly.

  1. Prepare Descaling Solution: Mix a descaling solution according to the manufacturer's instructions, or use a solution of white vinegar and water (e.g., 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water).
  2. Run Cycle: Pour the descaling solution into the water reservoir. Place an empty carafe on a warming plate. Run a brewing cycle without coffee grounds.
  3. Rinse: After the cycle, discard the solution. Run 2-3 cycles with fresh, clean water to thoroughly rinse the brewer and remove any residual descaling solution.
