1. Introduction

3.2 Tuning the Guitar

The CE44-5 is equipped with an onboard OP-4BT preamp system that includes a tuner. To tune your guitar:

1. Press the 'Tuner' button on the OP-4BT preamp to activate the tuner.
2. Pluck each string individually. The display will show the note being played.
3. Adjust the tuning machines (Chrome Die-Cast) until the display indicates the correct pitch for each string (E, A, D, G, B, E from thickest to thinnest). The tuner will typically show a green light or a centered needle when the string is in tune.
4. Press the 'Tuner' button again to deactivate the tuner.

3.3 Connecting to an Amplifier

To amplify your guitar's sound:

1. Ensure your amplifier is turned off and its volume is set to minimum.
2. Connect a standard 1/4 inch instrument cable from the guitar's output jack to your amplifier's input.
3. Turn on your amplifier and gradually increase its volume to a desired level.

4. Operating the Guitar

4.1 Using the OP-4BT Preamp System

The OP-4BT preamp system provides control over your amplified sound:

• Volume/Gain Control: Adjusts the overall output level of the guitar. Start with a low setting and increase gradually.
• Three-Band EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble): Allows you to shape your tone. Adjust these sliders to boost or cut specific frequency ranges to suit your playing style or the acoustic environment.
• Onboard Tuner: As described in the Setup section, use this for accurate tuning.
• Low-Battery Light: This indicator will illuminate when the 9V battery needs to be replaced.

5.1 Cleaning Your Guitar

5.2 String Replacement

Strings should be replaced regularly to maintain optimal tone and playability. The Ovation CE44-5 comes with D'Addario EXP11 Coated 80/20 Bronze Light Acoustic (.012-.053 Gauges) strings. When replacing strings, change them one at a time to maintain neck tension. Refer to online resources or a qualified technician if you are unsure about the process.

5.3 Humidity Control

Acoustic guitars are sensitive to changes in humidity. Store your guitar in a stable environment, ideally between 45-55% relative humidity. Extreme dryness or humidity can cause damage to the wood.

5.4 Battery Replacement

The OP-4BT preamp requires one 9V battery (included). When the low-battery light illuminates, replace the battery promptly to ensure proper function of the preamp and tuner. Access the battery compartment, typically located on the side of the guitar near the preamp controls, and replace the old battery with a new alkaline 9V battery.

• No Sound When Plugged In: Check the battery in the preamp. Ensure the instrument cable is securely connected to both the guitar and the amplifier. Verify the amplifier is on and its volume is up.
• Buzzing Strings: This can be caused by low action, worn frets, or an improperly set neck. Consult a guitar technician for adjustment.
