1. Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient operation of your ONKYO CR-185 CD Tuner Amplifier. The CR-185 is a compact audio system designed to play compact discs and receive radio broadcasts. This unit is sold as a center unit only; speakers are not included and must be connected separately.

2. Safety Information
Please read all safety instructions carefully before operating the unit. Keep this manual for future reference.
- Power Source: Connect the unit only to an AC 100V, 50/60Hz power supply. Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a wall outlet.
- Ventilation: Do not block any ventilation openings. Allow adequate space around the unit for proper airflow to prevent overheating.
- Water and Moisture: Do not expose the unit to rain, moisture, or dripping/splashing liquids. Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the unit.
- Foreign Objects: Do not insert any objects into the unit's openings, as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts.
- Servicing: Do not attempt to service this unit yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
- Cleaning: Unplug the unit from the wall outlet before cleaning. Use a dry cloth only.

4. Setup
4.1 Placement
Place the CR-185 on a stable, level surface away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive dust or vibration. Ensure there is adequate space around the unit for ventilation.
4.2 Speaker Connection
Connect your passive speakers to the speaker terminals on the rear of the CR-185. Ensure correct polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative) for each speaker. Use appropriate speaker wire for optimal sound quality.
- Strip approximately 10-15mm of insulation from the ends of your speaker wires.
- Twist the bare wire strands tightly to prevent short circuits.
- Press down the lever on the speaker terminal, insert the bare wire, and release the lever to secure the connection.
- Repeat for all speaker terminals, ensuring left and right channels are correctly connected.
4.3 Antenna Connection
For optimal radio reception, connect the supplied FM and AM antennas.
- FM Antenna: Connect the FM indoor antenna to the FM antenna terminal on the rear panel. Extend the wire for better reception.
- AM Antenna: Assemble the AM loop antenna and connect its two wires to the AM antenna terminals on the rear panel. Position the loop antenna for best reception.
4.4 Power Connection
After all other connections are made, plug the supplied power cord into the AC IN jack on the rear of the unit, then plug the other end into a wall outlet.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Basic Operation
- Power On/Off: Press the POWER button on the front panel or remote control to turn the unit on or off.
- Volume Control: Rotate the VOLUME knob on the front panel or use the VOL +/- buttons on the remote control to adjust the sound level.
- Input Selection: Press the FUNCTION button on the front panel or remote control to cycle through available input sources (CD, Tuner, AUX).
5.2 CD Playback
- Press the FUNCTION button to select the CD input.
- Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the CD tray.
- Place a CD with the label side up into the tray.
- Press OPEN/CLOSE again to close the tray. The CD will begin playing automatically.
- Use the PLAY/PAUSE button to pause or resume playback.
- Use the SKIP (▶▶| / |◀◀) buttons to skip tracks.
- Press the STOP button to stop playback.
5.3 Tuner Operation
- Press the FUNCTION button to select the Tuner input.
- Press the BAND button to switch between FM and AM bands.
- Use the TUNING (+/-) buttons to manually tune to a station.
- To automatically scan for stations, press and hold the TUNING (+/-) buttons.
- Preset Stations: To store a station, tune to the desired frequency, then press MEMORY followed by a preset number button. To recall a preset, simply press the corresponding preset number button.
5.4 Connecting External Devices (AUX)
You can connect an external audio device (e.g., smartphone, MP3 player) to the CR-185 using an audio cable (not supplied).
- Connect one end of a stereo audio cable (3.5mm or RCA, depending on your device) to the output jack of your external device.
- Connect the other end of the cable to the AUX IN jacks on the rear of the CR-185.
- Press the FUNCTION button to select the AUX input.
- Start playback on your external device.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning the Unit
Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn stains, lightly dampen the cloth with water or a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
6.2 CD Care
Handle CDs by their edges. Keep them clean and free from scratches. Store CDs in their cases when not in use.
